FPS CONFIG

(majesticLine) #1

Can anyone please give me a link of a working fps config?I’ve literally tried more than 10 of them and none is working. It’d be really great if someone could help me :’(

(deftMoon) #2

how much fps are you getting?

(MisterBadmin) #3

I use this old config, but it makes the game look hideous. There’s a readme, make sure you go through that and properly set everything you want.

Hello.

Definitely download the config MisterBadmin linked.

There are two more things you can try out to boost your FPS.

First of all, open the console by pressing ~ and type in texturepoolsize 1.
Do that in the main game menu to have it take effect the next match you play.

Furthermore you can lower the ScreenPercentage number in the ShooterEngine file.

To make it look like the above screenshot, change it to 50.000000
You can even go lower but I do not recommend that.

There is also the possibility to create an autoexec file that loads every time you start Dirty Bomb.
The user hypnotoad explained it in this thread.

Good luck!

@Kirays what does changing texture pool size and screenpercentage do? I’m just curious, I get fine fps.

#6

I’m not entirely sure but I believe texturepoolsize limits the amount of ram textures use.

Let me quote MarsRover about the ScreenPercentage.

(TR_Kama) #7

@Kirays you can also do this from in-game menu
Check your ThreadSync setting in-game (at the bottom of Video settings). Some updates will over-write your config and turn this to “On” resulting in a huge FPS drop. You want it set to “Off”

(Dr_Plantboss) #9

@Kirays I changed texturepoolsize to 1 to try it, and I want to revert it. Do I just restart the game or is there a default value I can put in?

#10

Yeah, if you restart the game everything will be back to normal.
Perhaps the default value is equivalent to the memory of your graphics card.

(Dr_Plantboss) #11

@Kirays Thanks a lot! (You don’t happen to know the default anyway, do you?)

(Nibbles02) #12

The screenpercentage changes the resolution of the game in the window and the texturepoolsize changes the amount of graphical RAM your computer is allowed to use to render graphics, setting it to 1 limits the max amount of graphical RAM to 1 MB, where the normal is around 2048 or 4096 for most people with graphics cards.

#13

Thanks for clearing that up!

Well, it’s equivalent to the memory of your graphics card.
As Nibbles has pointed out, most people have a 2 GB or 4 GB graphics card so the default value is probably 2048 or 4096.

(Dawnlazy) #14

Protip to people who don’t quite need/want to go full potato, you can set ScreenPercentage to about 85 and it makes only a minor visual impact (mostly on decals) and gives you a nice small FPS boost.

(majesticLine) #15

@Kirays thank you so much for the help but i cant find the screenpercentage number in shooterengine.ini…it just shows screen percentage=true

#16

Hit CTRL + F and paste ScreenPercentage=100.000000 into the field.
If you don’t find any results you may want to redownload the file by deleting it.

(bgyoshi) #17

A stronger solution is saving up for a mid-range PC and not having to deal with it at all. But if tweaking game files after every update is worth playing on an ancient PC to you then screen percentage will work great.

(Dawnlazy) #18

This game is notoriously unoptimized, people with better computers than mine have had to go full potato.

I haven’t yet but I still get random drops from 60-100 FPS to 20-40 in the middle of combat, which is admittedly suboptimal. I’ll probably play around with screenpercentage a bit later when I get the time.

(bgyoshi) #20

I really just can’t believe anyone that says this. I know it’s unoptimized, but I’m using hardware that was aging in 2012 + a Radeon 280 (not even an x) and I get 100+ steady on Ultra @ 1920x1200 res.
