FPS advice

(hhhmmmmm) #1

Hi all, i let me first map the other day  but it appears that the fps suck alittle :???:
Every brush was built in chaulk then the relevent faces textured, all brushes in my map are detail except for the box in which it sits.
This morning after work i took out around half the light models+light beams, i also covered the sky with a brush so now the map is all indoors, and replace the second floor alpha texture with a misc_metal so underneath can no long be seen but still not a lot of diffrent on the fps front :(.
I havent got chaulk hulling to work proper yet as when i build it over my brushes i get a HoM effect, i also havent got to grips with hint brushes, yet so havent done any.
The map even has fog which i presumed would help with fps or i’am i wrong?
I have alot of patches in the way of barriers/railings and light beams would changing these to brushes increase fps?
Or any thing else which may increase fps would be helpful.

This is the map thread :

Hi hhhmmmmm!
I haven’t tested your map yeat. And cannot do that now because I am at work. If you could provide pictures of your map that would help helping you out.
You shold do caulk hulling the way that the caulc brushes are inside the detail brushes and you can make some of your detail brsuhes into detail. hinting is tricky

Fog increases performance on middle and high end machines but lowers performance on low end machines… depends on how thick is the fog and your fogclip value.

You can remove the fog, it wont help you much in this small map.
What u need to do is to remove alot of the patches, all your railings, and there are alot of them are made out of curves. Also removing the fading light from the roof lamps would help increase performance. You have also used about 100 model lamps, the small ones close to the floor…drawing all that models makes the triscount very high, in some places u have an average of 30.000 tris being drawed. If you use the r_showtris 2 command when in sv_pure 0 u can see all the tris being drawn. Also r_speeds 1 will show u the amount of triangels being drawn at the same time. This will give u a hint of what makes up the most triangles and where to remove them.

I have a AMD 2200 with a 64mb GF2 PRO card and usually get 60-70FPS in the high tris places in the standard maps, but in your map i get 27-30FPS when getting outside the spawn.
