FOV (Find Yours)

We are all experienced Splash Damage game players and we all have our favorite FOV to use. RTCW I was 105… In ET I was 90… But switching to a different game or engine you start to see big differences. BF3 I was 60 and COD I was 120!

I was dead set on playing and testing DB at 90 FOV. I personally feel 90 FOV has the best headshot return ratio.

I came to find that with the current game setting, spread, recoil and effects when hit that 120 FOV is the best for me. It feels more like ET at that FOV and my bullets seem to hit better. Movement of enemy’s is also smooth as they are not bouncing around like with 90 FOV.

With that said I would almost want to test DB with an FOV of 90 because once that starts to feel smooth and everyone is starting to connect and track with 90 FOV then anything above that FOV will be like butter!

I use 90FOV at the moment. I have tried higher FOV but I noticed it’s alot harder to spot enemy’s with high FOV on DB. Also the size of the guns REALLY annoys me but FOV has no(or barrely any) effect on the size of the weapons (in W:ET it did).

But the weaponsize will get decreased soon.

Seriously stop opening useless threads which have nothing to do with the improvement of DB. No one cares about your personal settings, because everyone uses his own.

Last time I checked this was General Discussion & Feedback forum.

Tweaking a players FOV has a huge impact on testing a game. People using 90 FOV will have a higher recoil and quicker movements. Someone using 120 FOV might complain less about the recoil and more about the spread! It all works hand in hand with testing a game. FOV is one of the biggest parts of testing because it a personal setting…

What Rex is trying to say is to view it from a development point of view before posting, and if it can benefit in producing a better game. Don’t hate on him for wanting to help make a better game.

No, everyone will have the same recoil… and quicker movement is down to mouse sensitivity, in-game sensitivity and how good your reflexes are.

I am at 105 FOV, like many others I think because I get a wide view and the impression I move fast. And Rex is right, even if the way to say it was a bit stroggified ^^

It’s true we, alpha testers, should refocus more on finding bugs, help the developers address them in the right way, and propose great ideas to help them make DB my favorite game for the next three or four years after its release :->

I know the mechanics of the game don’t change when you edit FOV but I guess I am having a hard time trying to explain the differences. It was night and day playing between 90 and 120 FOV. Getting shot or vibrations seem to be 10 times greater with 90 FOV. Tracking is super hard with 90 FOV right now because the game isn’t super smooth for me and you need that crispness with a lower FOV. 120 FOV I noticed a lot more screen taring on my monitor then with 90 FOV. Enemy’s movements seem a lot more fluid. Am I going crazy here? There has to be something to my madness and I thought it would be important for the testing parts of this game. I think 90 FOV gives greater detail into the workings and feel of the game.

for competition 110 to 120 FOV will be mandatory … again this is only a question of taste, that’s why SD offered an option to change it. End of discussion no ? xD

FOV is an optical illusion, nothing changes from one FOV to another in terms of movement and shooting mechanics, the only thing that changes is your perception of them, which is to say of course everything changes because your perception is everything.

From SD’s point of view FOV means nothing, there’s nothing they can do at their end that’s going to make any difference. Find a FOV that feels good for you and stick with it.

Personally I’ve used 110 in every game I’ve been able to change it in. In BF3 I only used 90 because that was the max.

90 FoV because at long ranges i want enemies to be more than one pixel.

(INF3RN0) #12

100 here. I gain super speed past 90 fov *cheats.

132 or 133, but I guess 120 will have to do.
