Forum Topic Influences?

I am curious if any forum topics ended up influencing a substantial game play mechanic in Brink? (Obviously this is a question for the Devs).

For instance, it occurred to me that maybe the discussion on reviving possibly impacted the way medics heal team mates up close? One such topic was 'does new revive method take the fun out of being a medic", with the concern being it’s a lot of fun to rush in and rez guys while under fire, it’s exciting and gives a great feeling of accomplishment when pulled off. The change to tossing syringes and the target being responsible for reviving himself changed that*. Did that topic have any influence on making the heal mechanic a close up action?

Were there any other topics in the forums which influenced anything in the game? Examples if so?

*You could still have the guy rush in and stab the epi-pen in the guy and make him responsible for pulling it out to initiate the revive, so I’m aware if they wanted to they could have made the revives similar to the defib style and still make it the targets choice to activate it when he wanted to.

I’m sure they do change the game based on public opinion, but they always had the heal work up close, i think you can see it in one of the original container city vids.

It’s not like anyone ever had an elephant dart gun that hit their teammate with a syringe from across the map. Most likely adjustments have been made from internal playtesting and what works best.

I kind of hope they take on board ideas that may be suggested for problems they’ve not found an answer they are satisfied with internally. But I’d be quite disappointed if they made changes based on the levels of whinge in this or any other forum.

Gamers are not game designers

I don’t think it did, since Exedore responded to that topic telling us about the close proximity healing, implying that it was already implemented beforehand.

The revive thing was just a possible example to illustrate what I was talking about. Sometimes you might read something and it inspires you (the medic has lost his cool run in and revive mechanic), but then you go off in a different direction (we could play with the heal mechanic to achieve similar coolness) than the original inspiration and it works great. So even though it’s not necessarily the same, you might not have gone there had you not explored the idea more seriously.

@Sock: you don’t think they’d just take ideas willy nilly do you?

Can the medic still revive while running past? (Not to derail)

Only if the target wants him to

Not really saying that. I mean more that a design choice they feel works wouldn’t be changed just because of nerd rage in the forum. I trust they have a far more unbiased view of what works for the game than someone who is biased to what works for them. The aura is a great example of this.

Im sure every anal retentive thing that has been discussed here, has been discussed internally PRIOR to appearing here. Its not as if people are coming up with cool ideas, or things that havent been entertained before.

So no I dont believe this forum has that much pull. In saying that I do remember nerd rage about certain weapons in ETQW which eventually got nerfed in their patches.
