Forum "spam protection" is broken

(sneak) #1

When posting, you always get a warning about posting “1 time within 120 seconds” which doesn’t make sense to begin with. EVERYONE is posting 1 time within 120 seconds, it’s only ONE post. That’s just a grammatical failure, but here’s the real issue…

I posted this thread at 4:19 CST: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/20556/stuck-at-refresh-screen-after-game-end

at 4:23 I tried to post another thread showing the latest forced-reload bug and I was presented with this error:

“You have posted 1 times within 120 seconds. A spam block is now in effect on your account. You must wait at least 300 seconds before attempting to post again.”

Assuming the corrected version of this is “you have posted more than 1 time within 120 seconds…” then I’ve only posted one time within 120 seconds. From 4:19 to 4:23 there were 4 minutes that passed which is 240 seconds.

So essentially the forum has a restriction that doesn’t allow you to post more than once per 5 minutes? At the very least, allow some members with a certain amount of posts some more leeway.

Maybe because the forum would get filled by spambots?

No it wouldn’t, this must be your first forum.

It’s every 5 min to prevent people from spamming on the forums.

this makes it quite hard to report bugs though, as you only get to report one bug per thread and only once every 5 minutes…
I’ve played for 15 minutes but found 4 bugs/glitches (15 min gameplay = 20 min forumtime :-/

This is exactly why I made this thread. One bug per thread in a beta and 5 minutes between posts? Why not have a group of people who are trusted enough to not spam?

I don’t handle the forums besides checking bug reports. That would be a @MissMurder question/answer.

We’ve had a major problem with spambots attacking this forum, even the bug reporting section! The time limit really isn’t that inconvenient, and it allows our forumers the chance to search and see if the bugs were previously reported, which saves everyone time.

Again, if there were a group for people who have been posting regularly being allowed to post more than once per five minutes it would help tremendously. It doesn’t take that long to run a search for an existing report. Also, this is a forum-wide issue, not just bug reports. So making threads in multiple categories or multiple threads in another category than this one that aren’t spam is so difficult with the excessive restriction. The issue is normal users are being punished due to poor spam control on the forum.
