Just curious, how much would it take for DB to have foreign language dubs option?
I remember messing with foreign languages in video games out of boredom. Heck, I’d like to support me-self in teaching Spanish, by contextual learning in video games.
Foreign language dub?
There’s really no point in doing it. It’s just a waste of money for the devs and it will only be used by people like you and me who change it once every half a year out of boredom to have some laugh and then switch back because of how aids it is.
You won’t really learn a language from it, and if you switch your language because you don’t speak English then you shouldn’t be playing multiplayer games in the first place. At least having it on English will help people learn the language a bit if they insist on playing multiplayer games

Yeah, I see a valid point in hiring voice actors and all.
Least subs could work when mercs speak, sometimes thanks to their accents/gibberish, some lines can get misheard.

Uh… not every game is developed in an English-speaking country and there are servers all over the world.

Oh, okay
I thought the standard was a 1 paragraph minimum between contradictions but I guess times are changing

You got me : 3
But it’s still kinda true, most people started learning English in around 2nd grade so English in games is an extra to what they already know. But a completely new language you started learning later on is kinda harder and it won’t help you much

But every game that is available worldwide (like a game where it’s not only Chinese people playing or something) is made in English, everyone communicates there in English and if you don’t you won’t be able to actually play the game without a full team. You will most likely get flamed if you don’t speak English, this is sad but true. Nobody wants someone who doesn’t speak English on their team.
Russian is my mother language but I still get pretty pissed if I get Russian teammates that don’t speak English, and I can see all the hate they are getting from my other teammates that are not Russian (unless they are all premades but usually that’s not the case)

Yeah, hiring a lot of actors will cost a lot of money and there are not benefits from it and SD won’t earn any profit from it either.
But what I would like to see is more voice lines in the mercs’ languages. I want to hear Sparks and Thunder having some Russian voice lines and Aimee saying some things in French (preferably one of her SNITCH voice lines), I want to hear Proxy talking in the monkey language. Turtle only has like 3 voice lines in Arabic (but I guess that’s 3 more than most other mercs no? ).
It won’t be worth it. Think about how many voice actors would be needed for Europe alone at least the PIGS languages plus probably Poland. Then Russian… Furthermore, most of the stuff the mercs say is witty, has a play on words, is close to their character and mostly one liners. You need to find a translator who is willing to read up on the mercs, capture the humor and if something is not directly translatable, find an equivalent in the target language.
This costs all time, and time is money. And gaming companies usually don’t pay enough to translators to make this all worthwhile.
This would probably end in some really awkward voice lines

Well, i would volunteer to do Skyhammer Voice lines for FREE
SDK…
TF2 has voice mods, like the famous Vagineer. If only DB allowed mods for it.

I can certainly see the real-world applications of some sentences but I doubt you gonna use “Disarm the damn C4!” in everyday conversation that often. Now those taunts on the other hand…

That’s the point! By learning interesting vocabulary and not some global warming/economic topics, it’s waaay easier to learn foreign language.
Heck, already know what “LANZACOHETES” means!
