For us 3D designers on this game, Splash Damage, could we get the gun models from the game?

(HoakinBlackforge) #1

Since i have been getting into 3D modeling, and discovered that you can make some skins and gun models for other games (insurgency for example), and i havent touched this game in a long time, i was thinking if Splash damage could release at least the gun models and let both the DB community and others outside have material to practice making skins for the game, or people like me having more models to work with.

Since skins were something i heard they were an idea to be implemented in Dirty bomb, i dont think it would have a negative impact on giving free the gun models. Of course, giving you credit always for it.

What do you think about it?

There is no way source files for these would ever be given out for public use, I’m afraid :frowning: There’s all sorts of legal complications and copyright stuff - not to mention, I’m doubtful any artist would be happy to hand out their work like that

However, if oyu want to take a look at some of Ben Garnell’s work (the gun modeler for Dirty Bomb), you can always check out his ArtStation page: https://www.artstation.com/artist/bcog

“gasps”

A grandeur with a scope?!? Why don’t we have a scope in game?!?

Oh well, no problem, thanks anyway!

I really wanted the bishlok model, so i could make it into a skin for insurgency… :confounded:

Let’s get to the meat of why companies don’t release their assets willingly. Rule 34.

@Sorotia the models from his ArtStation are not all finalised versions for the games. They were all made for the game at some point, but over time the Grandeur has changed, and thus the scope has been removed. Any other information is still under the alpha/closed beta NDA, but needless to say, it’s gone. :stuck_out_tongue:

I figured…just would be really nice to have one, even if it was more like the Stark scope than the other sniper rifles.

Great idea although wrong place. SD lives out of selling their vanity. Imagine people would start making their own ^^

(kopyright) #9

Who doesn’t love some hot and steamy bishlok on bishlok action?

@Sorotia It’s actually back in Alpha stages before the loadout system, Dirty Bomb was like CoD and you could do like custom classes by choosing your own perks, guns, skins for the merc and gun. You could also add attachments, that’s most likely why the Grandeur had a scope.

Where you there or are you just repeating something you heard somewhere? I was in the Alpha when there were only 5 mercs and I’ve never know a time where you could pick perks and guns. Skins for the mercs and weapons, yes, but alternate weapons and augments came bundled up in loadouts from the first day they showed up.

@Djiesse Just taken from images and things I’ve read, not 100% correct since a lot were under NDA so I didn’t have full on information provided. But wasn’t there more mercs added than just 5 mercs the whole alpha? I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen mercs playable in alpha and also Aimee was in alpha too.

@Xavien you’re thinking of Closed Beta. There was quite a lot of stages of the Closed Beta! Although it seems a lot of people think the “Closed Beta” only includes the Steam CBT in early 2015… haha! There was a lot before that :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve seen Dirty Bomb videos on youtube dating back to January 2013. The game looked way better back then, imo. Graphics wise and stuff I mean. I don’t really know how to explain why I liked the look of it better, but I just did haha.

Some of the maps looked pretty sweet, but Dazzler makes me lol. HMG as main, M4 as secondary, flash nades and frag nades. So basically Fragger and Thunder as one haha. I assume we will never see him return based on the principal two new mercs were split from him?

Better? Looks clunky as fuck compared to now

Back then DB looked way to “gritty modern warfare” and sounded the part too. I prefer the lighter look of the game today myself. But I can understand why people might like how it used to look. Also, the old look was very very canned UE3 and it also had a lot of canned UE3 sounds too from ShooterGame. That’s part of why I don’t like it. The aesthetics and feel of the game overall is definitely more unique than it used to be IMO.

(Faraleth) #18

@rancid Correct, “Dazzler” will never return  As you said, his concept was split into 2 separate mercs.

(DB Genome editor) #19

@Xavien yes, the Alpha went beyond the “original 5”. I wasn’t there from day 1, but still early enough to have known the game with only those 5 though, which is why I doubt I would have missed a time when guns and augments could be picked freely
