For anyone getting "brink has stopped working" possible fix

(dazo247) #1

Hi like alot of people i tried and tried to get this game to work and countless times got the “brink has stopped working” but i finally suceeded in getting it to work and this might help you aswell. First my card is a radeon HD 4650 1gb and my operating system is vista so i installed the 11.5a hotfix rc3 drivers for vista users with desktop graphics use the vista fix that is out or it wont install and obv update c++ package and direct x. Then i still got the error however i read that portal 2 caused alot of people the same error because AIM was running in the background, i however do not have AIM but i went to task manager and shut down any unecessary programs such as google toolbar, punkbuster and a couple of others, i havn’t figured out yet which was causing the game not to launch but once i carefully checked through the task manager and closed the programs not needed the game now launches and plays beautifully. I dont know if this will work for everyone but i tried everything else and this done it for me so try for yourselves Thanks:D

EDIT: ok sorry not a permanent fix seems lsass.exe is causing this crash on vista if you close the process the game will work but your computer will eventually restart as it is an important process

Hi dazo247.

Been around these forums trying to find a fix for the exact issue you were getting, and your suggestion appears to be the only one which gets the game running for me. Have you managed to figure out anything further related to disabling the “lsass.exe” process??? This process is a pretty important to the use of windows (has dependencies) and causes my unit to automatically restart once I exit the game, but its a useful clue to figuring out what the specific problem may be and perhaps lead to a fix for the hundreds of people having the same issue.

Anyone from Splash Damage know what part of the “lsass, exe” process may be causing this issue?

Thanks for starting block dazo247, hopefully someone will notice this thread and add a note or two.

Something probably isn’t right on your machines if forcibly closing lsass allows Brink to run and it otherwise crashes.

From a command prompt, run tasklist /svc.

How many different services do you see running associated with lsass.exe and what are they named?

(memoireXIII) #5

if i run tasklist/svc the window pops up for like 1 or 2 seconds and just closes.

Open a command prompt first, then run it. Don’t run it from a run window.

I get the same service running in association with ‘lsass.exe’. The name is ‘SamSs’ which is the “Security Accounts Manager” service, which is extremely important to windows as a whole, and cannot be stopped without the system going bonkers. Its true what memoireXIII, it is a mere clue to finding a solution to this issue no doubt. It’s something to do with Security no doubt, but what could it be???

So no one is gonna look into this issue?
Great support splashdamage.
