Footballfield

(Ramm) #1

Hi,

I am making a stadium just for fun in ET to understand everything better, but I am stuck when I try to make the footballfield. I don’t understand how to make a dot in the middle (to put the ball on), or a circle in the middle. When I use the “circle”-tool, I get white borders on the outside, but the top is transparent. So if you stand on it, or look at it, you still see the grass on top (the circle is placed above the grass)

And on top of that, I have 1 other question: In some maps it is possible to shove stairs by pushing it. If I would be able to make a ball, how can I make it “pushable”?

make a square brush in the middle of the field
select it, then go to brush >> arbitrary sided
and choose 8
and another with 12 so u can see what happens

Be sure that brush is detail though because if it isnt, you ll get a big problem in your next compile.

Btw… great idea to learn mapping that way. That s really appreciated. :drink:

whats the objective ? making a touchdown?

I love to see personal effort…cheers to Ramm !
about the cylinder thing…just find the endcap button on the toolbar. It will do both ends. Just becareful on a re-size after u place the endcaps.

And visit: www.spyjuice.com/ld.htm for in-map tutorials with all the files you’ll need to check the maps out in the editor as well.

You could also make a texture with a dot.

BTW you could take a look at Lanz’ ET-Domination Mod.
It has a ball:

You might also search this forum for the keyword decal.

OK, the middot worked out fine and the middle circle is ± ok (not exactly as I wanted it, but it’s OK), so thanks for your help on that.

I’ll have a look at the ET-domination Mod for that ball.

The goal of this map is: none :stuck_out_tongue: I’m just playing it with a friend for fun, not for competition or something and it’s not a football-field like in America, but a soccerteam (like Man Utd, Barcelona, …)

I still have 1 question left after reading these posts: what’s the difference when you set something to detail (I guess it get’s rendered less or so?) and what should I set to detail? Because I only made 1 stage of the stadion, and it allready get’s pretty big to compile, and I didn’t started with the textures yet, so that promises :stuck_out_tongue:

I d say in your map, you should make EVERYTHING detail except the skybox.

The difference is: structural brushes make the empty room around them get split into cubes, and each of those cubes (their name is leaf) gets calculated in the compiling process. So with a lot of them your compile takes longer and longer, especially the VIS stage.
You can see what s structural and waht not by pressing Ctrl+D. What stays is structural.

The default for a brush is that it is structural, so I guess all your brushes are structural.
To make a brush detail you select it, and then press Ctrl+M. To make it back structural its Ctrl+Shift+S.

Basic rule is: only high walls or walls that surround rooms need to be structural. Everything that is small brushes (for benches, tables, fences etc…) has to be detail.
