Fire is simply a texture in the sfx folder. Might want to add a trigger_hurt to harm people if they can walk into it.

Fog is done with the sky shader, or in the worldspawn keys, or as a fog brush.

To fog a whole level, make a fog shader (could easily user/copy one from the ET shaders) and then add the keys into worldspawn:

levelfog
fog_shader_name

To fog an area, make a fog brush and apply a fog shader to it.

Some textures have shaders and some have not. If you apply a fire texture, make sure it is a “real” fire texture with a shader. And not a simple fire texture (a fire texture that does not move).
How can you tell, wich textures have a shader?, you ask. It is simple. Have a look at the texture images in your editor (I have the textures in the right down corner). If the image has a white frame, then that texture has a shader.

Here is how I do a fire:
a) Make a brush.
b) Go to the menu, click on Textures, drag down to sfx.
c) My favorite fire is wilsflame1. Apply wilsflame1 to one (1) side.
d) Go to the menu, click on Textures, drag down to common.
e) One of the common textures is nodraw. Apply the texture nodraw to the rest of the brush.

Here is how you add hurt:
f) Make a brush that covers the fire. It can have texture common/caulk.
g) Right-click in the left window, drag down to Trigger and select trigger_hurt.

I have no idea what that is. Maybe that side of the brush is the wrong texture (like common/caulk)?

That doesn’t appear to be seeing through the brushes, it looks more like you can see another brush. Perhaps it’s a z-fighting thing. Are you running in 16-bit or 24-bit depth buffer mode? (it’s under video options)

And you aren’t using a proper sky shader. Make sure you only pick sky shaders from the skies folder and that have a white outline in the texture window.

As for fire - there are only two that I know of, both called wilsflame and they are in the sfx folder. Do not use the ones that are just called flame because they don’t have the right shaders with them. The wilsflame is an animated fire shader that gives off yellow light.
