Floaty Damage

(Paxene) #1

Hey everyone,

just want to say I’ve been loving Dirty Bomb tremendously. So much character and humour…I love it!

Been playing for a little while now out of Winnipeg Canada and I really want to get into the ranked matches. I’m currently level 11 and haven’t had a single ranked match yet. But that will come.

But I wanted to share an idea I have, and I hope this is the right place for it.

It’s happens very often that I engage in a fire fight, and neither I nor my opponent get taken down by the shots that we exchange. And I really like the kill card that floats up when somebody does get a kill shot on you. Nothing more aggravating than seeing you lost the duel by only a minimal percentage, right?

So my little brainstorm is an onscreen display of the amount of damage delivered.
I don’t think right on the crosshair would be the best idea, but imagine these numbers appearing over the minimap for instance.

Scenario, Skyhammer is in battle with Thunder using the Timik and scores a few hits. ting ting ting PING (headshot heh)
So little red text would float above the minimap…a series of floaties, each one representing the exact damage that was caused by each bullet landed, the headshot appearing in bold, slightly larger perhaps.
And underneath these fading floaties is a solid red number that displays the total damage accumalated, which also flicks off after a short time.

Further I imagine seperate columns of damage reported for different targets, although the columns will go unlabeled and it’s up to the player to witness which column appears with the corresponding target.

Green (or blue) floaties for healing/support given.

Orange floaties for deployable/explosive damage dealt. (Especially useful for those scenarios when a mine is triggered but the target survives)

That’s it in a nutshell. I suppose that some people may consider this as too much information being given about the battle environment, but I think it would add another element to the gameplay. It’s already fast and frantic as it is, and with the amount of red enemy sighted notifications that continue to pop up, I think it’d offer a litle more depth if you had some insight into the enemies condition. Make educated decisions on whether to charge a weakened foe or try to duck for cover.

Thx for reading all of that (if you did, lol) and I’ll see you in game,

So you want damage numbers?

(feat. heavy’s fascinating hardcore totally pro gameplay)

Eh, don’t really need it for DB honestly. We can already see their healthbars.

@Paxene welcome, Winnipeg is awesome

when you get assist/kill you get xp 1xp=1dmg

(yesser) #5

showing how much an ennemy have dealt dammage to you /number of bullet will help to find hackers i guess

Kinda like that LifeupOmega, but in my grand vision they’re not floating off the crosshair or the contact point, lol a moot point really. I was just thinking it’d be kind of interesting having a reference as too how much damage was actually done.

@Paxene after some time playing you’ll get used to the ttk combinations with different weapons and mercs, you also gain an equal amount of exp to the damage you dealt, assuming the enemy dies before being healed.

I’d probably be too distracted by the numbers, but hey, it’s not like I’d be against it.
