Fletcher: Quick Switch vs Lock On

(FerfyDerf) #1

I’ve been playing Fletcher a lot again recently, and have had plenty of times I stick someone, but die just a bit too early to det. I have Lock On which provides 30% faster dets, but what does that matter if I didn’t live just long enough to do the deed? Does it even work that way? Does Lock On make the det click faster, or the time from click to stickybomb explosion faster?

I don’t know the numbers, but I’m curious to see what y’all know and think about this. Speaking strictly in detonator and sticky bomb usage, which perk do you feel is better?

@Sniff Is the man for you.

I feel like the switching is better, but this is as somebody who doesn’t player fletcher much at all and prefers the guns over the bombs. Being able to quickly throw a bomb and be back to the primary weapon is a good thing.

Besides, if you stick them the time to detonate matters less.

Since when Lock on works with stickies? It used to, when stickies detonated like proxies, but afaik it’s bugged, unless I have outdated info.

you have outdated info

Quick Draw : better in duels. Allows you to switch to what you need the most in combat but makes you rely more on pre-detonated sticky bombs, which is inconvenient for precise airbursting.

Lock-On : better for precision throws thanks to faster reacting bombs, but facing an enemy with the wrong weapon will be more punishing.

Pro’s of Lockon:
Better mid range fights
Take less damage from corner sticking
Time Bombs Airburst Bombs easier
Surprising people with bombs is faster

Con’s of Lockon:
Close range sticky bombs do more damage to yourself (can’t run away as fast)

Pro’s of Quickdraw:
Faster switch time means you throw bombs faster. (for some reason?!)
Faster switch time means you switch to the detonator faster (only a 1 frame detonation difference than lockon)
Faster switch time to any gun to follow up a kill
Time from when you detonate to when the detonation occurs is delayed enough to run away without damage from the bombs in most cases

Con’s of Quickdraw:

If you miss enemies can run away from your bombs before the slow det speed
Hard to time airbursts
Take more damage the longer the range because of detonation speed

tl;dr

Lockon for Trapping, Corners play, and Sneaky Sticks

Quickdraw for head on Fletcher

Thats what happens when you are taking a break from a game. So you are saying it works properly? quick switch still looks better on paper, though.

I love Quick Draw on Fletcher because I constantly switch between stickies, Blishlock and Empire-9 depending on range and other circumstances. I’m not a master of airbursts and other tricks, so I don’t need shorter detonation time.

tldr: BL33 for life (or at least until a more balanced (read better) 2nd gen loadout comes out).

Why would the Lockon augment affect the flight of the Stickies?

It affects the detonation time between when you press the trigger and when they explode. I think normally it is .5 seconds and it becomes .4something I think. Not 100% on the timings myself. Not a big fan of Fletch.

I’ve gotten pretty fluent in Fletcher play and due to my style I much prefer quick draw. This is because of me relying more on guns and my aim as opposed stickies being used as primaries.

One of the big flaws I see in Fletcher play on servers is a lot of them rely too much on stickies and forget about guns or use stickies in situations where a gun would have been a better choice. Sticky primary playstyle is fun as hell but it’s still rolling the dice even if you’re pretty great at it. Especially when you run into a player who knows how to make you miss stickies and has aim to reduce your time to throw accurate/detonate. But, it will get you kills in some situations you might not have gotten a kill in. So it’s down to preference. I’m not a gambler so I stick to my guns

So I prefer quick switch but lock-on is also good. It’s actually down to personal choice in how you want to play which I love. Meaningful choices in games are great.

Also, I moved this to Merc discussion. @FerfyDerf please try to remember to make threads in the proper sub-forum

(retief) #13

Huh, so lock on doesn’t affect how soon you can press the detonator button, it just lowers the delay after you press the detonator button? Good to know.

(terminal) #14

LOCK ON AND QUICK DRAW IN THE SAME CARD FOR GEN 2 PLEASE

(MarsRover) #15

Just add Unshakeable and you’ll get a “balanced” 2nd gen card

(Dysfnal) #16

@terminal You should just give him a card that makes his stickies kill all enemies on that map, it would only be a little bit stronger
