what should be fixed first
fixy fixy
Hard to say, I feel like weapons, ability, client communication, load times, are okay where they are at. Not too sure what collision means, so Id have to say merc specialization or lack of min level obj servers.
Honestly I’d rather they take a break from content and balance and just work on fixing the backend instead. All of it needs a rework, not just networking (though it’s probably the biggest issue you listed), and it seems to get worse with every update. I know SD isn’t ignoring it, they are working on it, but I really think it needs to be a higher priority. No amount of crossbow mercs will make up for the fact that everyone’s first impression of the game is the most studdery menu I’ve ever seen in a videogame ever.
You can spend as much time as you want decorating your house and making it as pretty as you can, but that doesn’t matter when your foundation is barely supporting it.
EV Collision Box. Y’all know my stance. Noobs can probably tolerate minor weapon/ability balance (because they’ll complain regardless) but we can’t be having people transported to the fifth dimension when they move around the EV.
Also there are a lot of little things on the map that are easy to get stuck on, and could be ironed out.
Literally every single one of these points should be looked into. But I’ve just been waiting sooo long for some merc balance and again sorry to say but I don’t give a damn what happens to Phantom. Redeye, Aimee, Thunder they all deserve some attention and SD knows that because they know that these three are the least played mercs all around.
Not saying the rest is not important merc balance would jut be my favourite.
Weapon balance is not as bad as it was, and tbh the game balance wise is in a decent enough spot right now that the devs should really be focusing on the core experience more, which includes the servers, aimpunch and maybe progression (a little less, but still valid especially for newcomers).
Quite frankly I would choose more than just servers, but I do feel this is a key issue that must be fixed first, especially with new mercs coming out that may be more harrowing on the performance of the servers.
Hard to choose between collision poo (fuck this EV) and server/client communication.
The rest is minor or too deeply in the core gameplay now that it’s not impossible to fix unless reworking the entire game.
I picked “lack of min level obj servers” only because there was no choice for “lack of min level stopwatch servers”. No min level servers (or something even better) currently makes it really hard for me to find a fun match in any game mode.
I am a bit torn on this one, but I went with “Collision”; though I have to say that the collision problems and the client/server communication issues kind of feed into each other, in regards to how greatly they impact your gameplay experience in DB.
I still get my characters feet stuck inside the ground after doing long-jumps on occasion, for instance; and the EV collision box is still a disgusting mess that you can easily get stuck in. The problems with the collisions in this game become even more apparent with “Collision Mode” ON; where an aura placing a station right on you sticks you in place (same applies to all deployable abilities) making you a sitting duck. Or in an even more extreme example when placed right in the center of a small doorway it effectively blocks passage entirely; this wouldn’t be an issue if they didn’t insist upon “dumbing down” and streamlining every map down into cramped lanes and choke points for such large stretches, which they seem to have a predilection for as of late.
Dome is an example of this process. What was once a map that definitely needed improvement but was still the most layered map in the game, has now become a watered down mess with few flanking routes or alternate routes (of actual consequence; as the current ones just go back to one of the already existing lanes); trick jumps were removed or made even simpler on all maps, not just Dome. Everything that was skill-based in this game has slowly been made easier and more streamlined to the point of giving a casual vibe; and yet they still tout the game as being hyper-competitive when their design choices clearly contradict that ideal (their continued lowering of the skill ceiling on various fronts is honestly getting out of hand). As someone who works in the same field I have to say that yes streamlining isn’t bad, in moderation, but you have to know when to stop so you don’t water down gameplay mechanics; especially in a game that is aiming to be a competitive title (which is unfortunately what they’re doing by this continued excess of simplifying).
As for the client-server communication there are still weird desynchronization issues occuring even with a low latency and no packet loss; where you are suddenly sent all the way back to spawn or are behind a wall and suddenly out in the open, dead from a shot that you had no chance to react to, or any indication of shots having been fired during the desync. Wonky hit registers due to issues with client-server communications and a crappy net-code also come to mind in the list of problems in need of attention; I could carry on and on with the list of issues this game gets from its piss-poor excuse for net-code, but I’m going to avoid ranting too much here.
Long-story-short, both issues are equally important to me, in terms of what I feel should be a priority, aside from general bug fixes at the moment. If they continue to focus purely on pumping out more new content without keeping up with the bugs that ensue as a result, it won’t be long before we have a Summer Squash IV, V and VI; and I don’t think any of us want to put up with that mess of a process again.

yah, should have made it just min level servers
In the end all those listed items should be focused on and should be in a better state before the 1.0 release. This is why I dislike that they put all their hopes on 1.0 release and not release the “fixes” earlier to beta test them earlier so they know they in a better state before the release.
Since we had to pick one, the “client/server communication” is the one that annoys me the most. The problem I currently experience:
- Going in full cover but still get hit / die from enemy fire.
- Hitting the enemy but doing no damage.
- Enemy warping although they having a low ping.
- Still no ping limitation on ranked / public games.
- Better connection to the servers, I shouldn’t be getting 50-100 ping to EU / London servers while in other games I max have 15-20 ping to same regions.
- Receiving multiple hits in a single server tick, resulting in dying in 1-2 ticks and having no time to react.
- Not sure if this fit in the list but wrong animations is also a big thing, where you see the enemy reloading while he is actually shooting or he is not facing you but actually he is and start shooting etc.
- Random server crashes, playing a round and suddenly me and friends getting kicked out and the server is not there anymore. Doesn’t happen often but can still happen.
These problems seem to happen more often on high population servers like 7vs7. While if I play 3vs3 etc it rarely happen. These problems also start to happen more frequent after they added the “Telemetry” to the servers for their famous data for “balance changes”. Like the servers are not designed to handle 7vs7 and a logging system all at once, who would had guessed.

Welcome to why the elusive DemoRec that used to appear in spectator slot no longer exists; whoever thought their server’s crappy net-code and quality could handle something along the same vein to gather telemetry, clearly, didn’t think this through.
