Fixes to cards discussion

(DSGAFHRSWHT) #1

Ive been hearing a lot of people in game get pissed off about event cards (ranked, event specific etc) and i think ive got a solution.

The problem stems from a few areas:

The Special edition cards are hella rare
and
You usually get bad cards in the special edition
and
You cant get rid of them. These worthless wastes of space just sit there, mocking you, laughing at your bad luck.

Fixes?
You could reduce the rarity and make them easier/more common. However this reduces the value of these event cards, they are meant to be rarer than cobalts, rarer than everything.

What i instead propose is this: Allow the use of re rolling, requiring a hefty credit sum and a few weapon kits. Unlike normal card crafting, allow for the choosing of the exact, preferred load out. These cards are meant to show off that youve been here since CW or RoV, or they demonstrate how you play ranked and you are not a player to mess with. However, since most of the time any special cards you get are utter rubbish, you never show them off. Allowing for exact re rolling of cards for a really big price tag shows: The player is a very consistent regular who has enough credits to actually make the re roll, while also having the card for the base merc from the event.

Queries SD mght have:

_It might reduce value of the cards, make it worthless for people who get the ‘best’ or most desired card from the case first time. _

Response: Not really. If the cost for exact re rolling of special editions is something quite high like 50k credtis+20k+ fragments, getting the exact card first time just saves the player currency, and giving them bragging rights of getting it first try.

Splash damage devs: Ughh, this would just reduce the sales we get and discourage people from buying more juicy elite cases

Response: Nope, this would probably encourage MORE sales. Now, if people KNOW that all they need is ANY card from their main merc in order to get their favorite load out (eventually), they wont be so demoralized as to not buy any in the first place, knowing full well that in the current system the chances they get that ONE card out of around 180 is too small to even bother gambling on. A fairer system giving fairer results is seen as a worthwhile investment over an unfair system with just as unfair results. (Maths: current system, the chance for a specific card is 1/180 but if you can specifically re roll cards, its 1/20 for a card with the merc u want)

Why Just special editions? Wouldn’t the community riot until exact re rolling becomes a thing for all rarities?

Response: Not if you emphasis the SPECIAL edition bit. Currently, special editions are kinda just cobalts you see on the battlefield, but usually they are either: The best loadouts people use as their main, a sub-optimal one a youtuber is using for a video after an unboxing or the only card you have for a merc. People will always want the ability to re roll to the exact card they want, at least giving them the chance to do that with their borderline useless special edition cards gives the community what they want without jeopardizing your entire business model, revolving around people not getting what they want and buying more stuff.

Side Note: If actually taken seriously and implemented, i would recommend that it be implemented retroactively and allow for people with special editions from previous events the opportunity to re roll too.

If anyone else has potential fixes to the current card system, feel free to give your change too.

Oh no, i forgot to chance the title to something specific to special edition cards. RIP

I believe your ideas may have been mentioned before

Every event card I have is a lousy loadout…bottom tier…hefty credits I can deal with…but weapon kits…which require RNG or money to spend and I can potentially get yet another useless card?

Only way I’d say weapon kits are if we get to choose loadout…like maybe the game rolls a merc and we choose which one we want. Otherwise it’s just trading RNG for more RNG and or money.

They can’t even be purchased with real money, which makes no sense, because they’re probably the most valuable crafting material in the game.

Yeah you’re right…I was thinking of crafting kits.

Maybe not weapon kits. I hate the crafting kits, because they are so damn overpriced right now,

Yea like mentioned since the dawn of time. Like literally in early days of Open Beta.

I like a clean inventory. I have 40+ special cards I will never use. I would even be happy if I could recycle them.

I don’t think they’re meant to be more rare than Cobalts, but rather given as special rewards for loyal players. The focus on “rarity” is stupid. Event cards are more of a status of when and how long you’ve played the game. They’re also just a cool collectible that you can only obtain once- that’s what makes them special.

Events should also be fun and it’s no fun when you get none or few event cards. SD just over-complicated things with this event. The RNG on top of RNG is annoying, and people don’t like it. Paying for Elite cases bothers me because of the devalued silver/gold cards. People with a stockpile of credits also get screwed over because of the low conversion rate of credits to hex. A 1:1 ration would be more suitable. People with large amounts of credits should be rewarded considering that means they play the game A LOT. The first two events were better in my opinion. Buying cases for 1,000 each with a 1% chance yielded a much better return.

Heh, guess I’m just upset that there’s little for me to spend real money on and even less for me to spend credits on. If crafting was fixed, it would be a different story of course. Plus I’m irritated with the inability to purchase Turtle and his Obsidian separately.

Anyways, enough of the rant, your ideas have been mentioned before and would be nice. Who knows if we’ll ever see them implemented though D:

I would look for a new way to display inventory appearing before recycling specials is available
