[Fix] Parties/MMR

(BK201) #1

A few things, I think we should really implement an MMR system similar to nosgoth, where it takes win loss, kdr, score per minute and all those things into account so you are playing with people on same skill level. I am really sick of carring my team doing every objective by myself having 4 medics walk over me not reviving and having ammo guys no drop ammo for anyone but themselves.

I have a few friends that I want to play with but we don’t want to do comp yet because a 3 stack with 2 randoms vs a 5 stack would be rape. Plus NO one plays it, you play against the same 2 teams and if they aren’t on it takes like 30 minutes to find a match.

The only argument against being able to play with friends is the so called “team stacking” which already happens.

A fix would be to let people party up to join casual matches because IF everyone can do it then teams would be more fair then they are now, unless you are so bad no one wants to play with you. But if that is the case nothing will fix that.

It is already planned don’t worry, though obviously it is “coming soon”.

So we will see it in about a month good to know, but i’d rather have it implemented soon if it’s at all possible.

I imagine it will come in April (if all goes as planned) because as you can see below they are planning “visible rankings” and for a player to have a rank there must be some kind of MMR system.

March was parties, so i dont see it in april . And theres nothing about MMR so you will keep having teir 1 playing with teir 5 players. Teir 5 complaining about everything being OP, and then ECHO will be scewed and messed up as well.

It looks pretty clear to me that they have this planned for competitive matchmaking. I assume it’s not a priority right now because not a lot of people are playing matchmaking yet (as you noticed as well), so there is only so much it could do anyway.

If you mean for casual servers, then that would be a bit odd, because “casual” usually means unranked. It could do some behind the scenes tracking I guess, which is never visible to players, but it still seems unusual at least to use a rating system for casual games. Level caps are a good idea though IMO (especially later when most Level 1s are actually new at the game), and we already have that to some extend.

The only argument against being able to play with friends is the so called “team stacking” which already happens.

There’s a game called DUST 514 which I used to play for a bit, and it has huge issues with team stacks destroying the balance on public servers. The counter-argument was the same “everybody can do it”. The only problem with that is, that it completely screws over anybody who just wants to play quick games soloing, without the implicit commitment that comes from playing with friends.

Of course you are right that it’s already happening to some extend, but I don’t know if your “fix” would really fix anything or just make it worse really. IMO competitive matchmaking is a much better turf for parties, once it properly gets going.

I totally agree that the matchmaking is problematic right now. The only “real” solution is to wait until open beta when player numbers can become sufficiently large for ranked matchmaking to make sense and to have a larger number of newer players on casual servers, but in the meantime we do need to think about how we can make the situation more bearable for beta testers (especially new ones).

I would even support extreme measures, like forcing a team shuffle whenever accumulated scores drift too far apart.

And perhaps a quick temporary fix for competitive matchmaking would be to have a few skill tiers that players can select for themselves, to encourage less competitive groups to try it. Right now it’s probably a bit too scary for most people, since playing competitive matchmaking means that you will inevitably run into one of the few top teams. Just separating by self-declared “low”, “med” and “high” skill could be sufficient already (as long as high skilled teams don’t decide to troll the low skill tier…).

Of course right now there are not enough teams to support this kind of separation, but that’s a bit of a chicken and egg problem. Once you have the tiers, low skilled teams for example could organise and agree on certain times to play with each other, just like the high skilled teams are pretty much doing right now.
