Finally: Merc Select Organization

(Terminal_6) #1

It finally happened, and I’m so happy I could cry.

BUT

Only experienced/enlightened players will understand the grouping. I suggest putting a class icon above each group to direct noobs.

Nah, the groupings are very self-explanatory and just take a look to get. I’ve been playing for like a week and they are pretty clear. New players wouldn’t know what each grouping meant even with icons (not as in the class designator, but as in what each class and each character in that class means in play), and by the time they did, either they wouldn’t need class icons or they’re never going to get it anyways.

Now a grouping with a label “Press E to Help Your Team” for a couple there…

I feel like you’re putting more thought into a simple graphical change than it’s worth. Not that you shouldn’t think, but is it really hurting anyone?

Obviously anyone who’s gotten along with the game has figured out the merc classes but I’ve seen a lot of new people in various public lobbies unsure of what an objective specialist was, etc.

Well, I think that you are (putting more thought into a simple graphical change than it’s worth) instead, expecting an icon to make any sensible difference. As you say, new people don’t know what an objective specialist is (which ties in perfectly with what I said about people not knowing what class designators mean for Dirty Bomb), not who they are. Knowing Turtle is one isn’t going to solve the what.

I personally am happy about it, makes it easier to figure what merc is about.

Almost accurate.

Phantom’s a wild card, remember? Mark ability or GTFO the “recon” group.

Spotting field please

Doesn’t show the detected icon, but lets your allies see where the enemy is so long as you are using refractive armor. Just my opinion.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I liked the change. I like organized things, the criticism was just about the class icons. I’m not even against adding class badges or whatever per se, just the reasoning that knowing Turtle is a “Specialist” would help new players, when the issue they face is just not knowing what exactly a Specialist means/accomplishes in Dirty Bomb, as well as what are the differences between the four. It would just be adding bells and whistles.

He’s not really a “team player” recon and more of a “watch you take a shower” sort of recon.

(Your worst knifemare.) #10

I think a recons job is to screw around with the other team. Examples are how Redeye blocks vision, Aimee debuffs, and Vas makes it harder to hide around walls. Phantom fits this area by disabling deployables like turrets and stations.

Pretty sure you just described Aimee
