Finally getting a new computer

(ludicrousBlast) #1

After years of playing on a craptop at 20fps, I have finally saved up enough money to build a gaming PC. For those interested in specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/professorsir/saved/#view=PXPTwP

I should have all the parts next week. So hyped to not play at max low settings on every game.

DON’T GET THE AMD FX.

Please.
I have the 8320, basically the same thing. Don’t even bother. Unless you plan on doing some heavy number crunch work, it’s just not worth it. If all you wanna do is play some vidyagames, then go for an i5.
If you do end up going for the 8350, then I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting an aftermarket cooler, something cheap like maybe Hyper 212 EVO, and then overclock.
Before I overclocked, performance was so bad I thought something was wrong with my chip.

You probably should get Nvidia graphic cards instead since a lot of games are supported by it and it’s Phyx are awesome, even Nvidia supports Dirty Bomb’s graphics.

Get an Intel i5 or i7 processor. Never use an AMD. Basically Intel has the best processors known to man.

But one of the worst graphic cards.

You should also get a Nvidia graphic cards. Best of the century.

Amd graphics card
I5-4460 boxed processor

The price is way too high for what you’ll get! Check out http://www.logicalincrements.com/

@AirborneAsian @extravagentBypass Choosing a new processor would also make me have to get a new motherboard, and possibly other things IF it is not compatible. I am still looking at nvidia graphics cards though.

What is your budget, if you don’t mind me asking

EDIT: What do you think of this build?

If you want a different mobo, Asrock is a partner company of Asus, and they have good motherboards even for Z97 and under $100

Everything else looks solid, except for the keyboard, I’d personally go with someone else but if you’re on a tight budget that will do.

@Watsyurdeal My budget is 1.1k including monitor and keyboard. I already have a good mouse and headset.

edit: The keyboard is one of the things I thought would be easy to get cheap, just because they are so easy to replace, unlike SSD’s and such. Same with the monitor, eventually I would like a 144hz monitor, but for now 60hz will suffice.

In that case, I’d wait a bit, the new intel processors just came out, wait and see how much the mobo and cpu’s cost and see if you get lucky, you might get something that’ll last a bit longer for the same price.

Look for a Skylake, or Z170 chipset as it’ll be seen on PC Part Picker, and see if you can get a cpu for 175 or less, and a mobo for around 100 or less.

Also, Micro Center, if there’s one nearby, gives you a deal that cuts off about 40 bucks when you buy the cpu and motherboard together.

I’d wait till January-March of 2016, prices should drop a lot, or you could see about the deals in November for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Doubt it, the new CPUs are obviously gonna cost more, and as it stands, they don’t give much of a boost in terms of gaming.

As for OP, definitely go for an i5. The individual cores are said to be around 2.5x faster than individual AMD cores. AMD is just not for gaming unfortunately, more or less for video encoding, which I actually don’t know what that is.

Go for Nvidia graphics card, either 960 or 950, the DX12 support is quite important, and the 750 is only for super tight budgets.

If possible, skimp out the keyboard.

I love me some computer tech talk, this is one of my main interests.

Honestly as far as gaming has been concerned the cpus have pretty much all performed the same since Sandy Bridge. Could change with the next iteration I guess but yeah…

Haswell was actually kind of bad for gaming since the improvement was so minor but they came with significant heating problems.

EDIT: However getting an older CPU now might screw you later since you’ll be getting a motherboard with an outdated socket type meaning you’d have to replace it when you do get a new CPU. Not that you may not have to do that anyway, who knows.
