filtering servers

(amohell) #1

hello,

I’m sorry if this has been discussed before.

I got the game today and when I wanted to join a server I directly came across a big problem (for me):the filtering. I know there is filtering at the top of the server list tho this is totally lacking the stuff I find interesting. For example I cannot filter if friendly fire is on, I cannot see full servers, I cannot filter empty servers away and with this annoying way of filtering its extremely hard to find a map since no I don’t memorize the exact name of the map.

Really just change it to how CoD does it or w/e other shooter, with an filter that has a easy to use menu where I can click though my options of filtering.

Also for future support it would be nice to filter a modded server so I can find those specific games.

Thanks for reading,
Amohell

Edit:I forgot to add the option to filter away bot enabled servers, which I would find extremely handy to do.

I agree. The filters are poor and not very useful at the moment.

I cant believe the things that ‘worked’ for all previous first person shooter titles just got thrown away and replaced by something worse.

(KaZuK) #4

I was kind of amazed when i couldn’t find a filter button lmao, it’s got to be one of the most important features when designing a game browser???

(Shadedluck) #5

There are multiple filter buttons, at least on the PC version, I haven’t played the console version yet.
GREEN: Filter Buttons
RED: Examples of Filters
BLACK: Custom games(IE no bots, no objectives(tdm, etc)
Usually, the names of the servers will add what they have in them, IE Friendly fire[FF ON], NO BOTS, etc.

I did understand there was a filter system implanted(like I said before), but at the moment I’m forced to filter with typing in what I want to filter. This seems odd since a easy to use menu would really make it easier for me(and I guess for the whole community).

So my remaining question is:“why implant something worse by throwing out a great system(the easy to click though menu?)”.

for example the one of enemy territory:

at 2 3 and 4 you have menu where I can click though the options and also have way more options to choose from, and if this ruined the layout just do this in a small menu like quake wars did(and every other shooter)

Seriously! And use a smaller font, at least on the ****ing server name.

Can you even add favourite servers?

(PillowTalk) #9

What you type in only works for single numbers.

Like you can’t remove empty servers, but you can remove full ones by entering in 15 under the player filter. This will show only servers with 15 or less people on them.

Likewise with ping (and is actually useful, compared to players) you can enter 150 and you won’t see servers that ping higher than 150.

To add a server as a favorite, click the box in the column under the Star. Though, the game, for me, has a habit of adding every server from my history to my favorites. >:/

thanks for the reply first of all but the point I was trying to make is that the filtering is just weird, seeing its hard to use really lacking important options and just is a big drawback of older Splash damage games like quake wars and Wolfenstein.

So what I really dont understand is the fact that they added such a filter system which is worse than every ‘older’ splash damage game

I’m not defending it in anyway, I’m just explaining how it actually works.

Yes, it blows completely. I want to filter out empty servers… Hell, I’d like to actually just see servers with a certain range of people, like between 10 and 15. Filters that are that good are few and far between.

(amohell) #12

right hopefully its getting noted that this has to change, cant stand it atm. Something so small can ruin a game for me simply because I cannot find those matches I want to play…

(PillowTalk) #13

In the meantime, because this is a Steamworks game, you can use Steam’s server browser to filter your games better. However, I don’t think the region mask for Brink works, since entering in US West yeilds 0 results, and both of my clan’s servers are in that region. However, they appear when the region is blank.

(amohell) #14

ah thank you, that certainly helps!

(General_Zod) #15

How do you use/launch steam’s server browser? I remember in l4d using openserverbrowser from the console, or do you mean something else? Oh nm, I see now. Hmm, I wish there was a way to create custom filters. I’d like to filter servers based on voip turned on.

(PillowTalk) #16

Right-click on the steam icon in the tray and select “servers.”

Then simply set the “game” filter to Brink, and the other filters to what you want. Just keep in mind what I said about the region filter.

Thanks. I was looking for a way to create custom filters to filter a server based on server cvars. Kind of like the old quakespy/gamespy days. I was curious and looked and all seeing eye and the rest seem to be dead. I thought even though this uses steamworks it may be possible being an id engine based game.
