FF

Is DB planing on making a few pub servers with ff?

(Nail) #2

at some point, but ranked should be

(The_True_mo) #3

Ranked is but I was wondering for pubs. They will do it in the near future then.

(Nail) #4

it was said to be an option, but lots of things have been said

#5

Ranked is a glorified pub so there you go.

(bontsa) #6

This.

However exactly because of this it should be the go-to mode. Server browser for community server funsies (in drop-in-drop-out way), Ranked for playing with friends (in matchmaking way) and virtual goodies.

As such, you should be allowed to try ranked before diving in it. Ranked on most popular games also exists because you can have the exact same rules on non ranked games.

I know many people don’t like the idea, but having a few ff-on servers per region should have been mandatory from the start.

(BomBaKlaK) #8

asking FF on some +10 server since ages … maybe 4 years since alpha !

(SaulWolfden) #9

Brand new servers should be made, 5 v 5, that way people can actually at least get a preview of what ranked is like. I don’t think friendly fire would work well on 6 v 6 or larger.

Having ff on servers would lessen all spam and people would play differently. It would also open up a new of playing, like killing at low health and ressing with almost full.

Agree, we can hope they will put them up at some point. [quote=“bontsa;213429”]

There would not be ff on all servers so the pick would always be up to you.

Hey there!

We are still working on rentable servers, and in these servers the players who run them should be able to turn FF on and off according to what they prefer.

At this time, we have no plans to turn on FF in server browser and Casual Matchmaking ourselves, however DBNation does PUGs regularly on their servers which has FF turn on!

(Nail) #12

that’s too bad, FF on would solve a lot of the teamwork issues, teach people how to actually play a FPS

Could you elaborate on this. Just to avoid misunderstandings.

(Nail) #15

it means they’re still dangling the carrot, stick will come later

(The_N00Ba) #16

I wonder if it is going to be a beat stick…

Unfortunately I cannot really say much outside of what I just did, as there are a lot of things we are still finalizing!

Well they are looking at the different parameters we’ll be able to tune if we rent one.

Generally, on most games with persistent stats, this forces two types of rentable servers :

  • Servers that will allow persistent stats, which will inevitably have to follow some certain rules to avoid stat padding or exploiting, such as disable the gravity or game speed parameters, specific weapon class locks, etc… Those are usually called “official”, “ranked” or even “xp save” in the server browser on most games, meaning that if you join a pub game on those, the xp you’ve earned in game will be earned on the persistent side. This generally has a downside, mostly on admin abuse or on some specific games, they don’t allow tuning options such as tickrate or ping limits. FF-on should stay in those rule brackets in my view and generally is. Developers and editors generally try to get the official branding of a server as a monetized feature you’ll pay on your server rent, and they generally allow only some specific renting companies to ensure a minimum quality level.

  • Servers that won’t allow persistent stats, which are a proper sandbox for admin, and allow them to do whatever they want. Those are generally cheaper to rent, but won’t keep track of the xp earned.

(Nail) #19

everything you could possibly do with the server has been figured out for years, UE3 is an OLD engine, what is more likely is figuring out how to best monetize the servers while preventing farming

(B_Montiel) #20

It’s not only about engine capabilities or abuse though, they could just level community servers to the same pace their servers are. Which means disabling tickrate, antilag and network tunings, not allowing ping limit kicks, not allowing specific map rotations, etc. Thus rendering community servers pretty much useless. But this occurs more and more nowadays sadly (I don’t play it, but check what is allowed on bf1’s community servers for example).
