Few quick questions about using Radiant

(ziege) #1

Some things have been bugging me for a while, I thought I’d have figured these out by now but no luck yet. Any help appreciated

  1. Should the Entities window remember it’s size? I read that it does, but mine definitely doesn’t. It’s tedious to have to drag it out every single time, how can I fix this?

  2. When I select an obscured brush using Ctrl+Alt, it deselects whatever I’ve already got selected. How can I make it add to the selection instead?

  3. How do I return a brush to it’s original state once I’ve already made it an entity? For example if I add func_explosive to a brush, then it’s 2D outline changes colour, but if I delete all the keys & values it still doesn’t go back to normal brush colour.

Thanks!

  1. From my experience the enitities window will only stay the same size if and only if you are using the ‘floating windows’ mode. Goto preferences>interface>layout and select the second layout option… It will be enabled when u restart radiant.

  2. Never used ctrl-alt.

  3. Not sure

1 of 3…

  1. OK thanks for the reply. That’s one annoying bug :frowning: I don’t use the floating windows mode, so looks like I’m going to be resizing that Entities window 10 times a minute for the rest of my ET mapping days… nooooooo :banghead:

Can anyone help with the other probs please?

to turn brushes into original state select all the brushes that belong to the entity, right click on grid -> ungroup entity

don’t really understand your selection problem but did you try yet ctrl+alt+shift ?

i’m using the YX,ZY,ZX and camera layout - so all 4 about same size and it works fine for me dunno how to change your entity window…

  1. I have that view too, the one with 4 windows and the console/textures/entity windows are floating. So your entity window remembers it’s size? [Edit: Sorted! I just needed to enable ‘Floating Z Window’ …whatever that means  ]

  2. This is really simple, I’m probably explaining it wrong. Here’s an example; Say I’ve got a room with a roof and 3 objects inside it. In the top view I can press Crtl+Alt to select one of the objects behind the roof. But how can I select more than one brush? If I Ctrl+Alt+click on another object, the first one deselects. If I Shift+click then the roof will get selected since it’s closer. Does this explain my problem better?

  3. Sorted! Thanks MuffinMan

well i always select everything in the camera view, never had the idea of selecting in grid-view so i don’t know about that…

I have same problem with entity window - just have to lump it i suppose

You can’t - well not to my knowledge - and it gets annoying when adding brushes to a terrain group

Use Ctrl Z - to undo the last few steps of what you’ve done

Thanks for replies.

@MuffinMan:
Yes I know you can select in the camera view, but sometimes in other cases this isn’t always possible. Say for example I create an object for dynamite to blow up, I need to surround it with a trigger, and I need to select the trigger then the object inside to link them together. This is impossible becuase once you select the object inside, the trigger deselects. I have to move the trigger or resize it just to link them, then put it back. (I’m aware I could also set the targetname manually, but that’s not the point  )

Oh and my Entities window isn’t fixed like I thought… I noticed it remembers it’s size if I have nothing selected, but once I select something then press N it’s back to tiny-vision.

ah now i understand the point, well i normally hide the surrounding brush (h) then select the inner brush, unhide the outer brush (shift+h) and select it as well, have trained that combination quite good so it doesn’t take much time…

Ah that does the job pretty good, thanks!
