Female characters?

First post, long time splash damage fan. I played wolf:et for almost 3 years and have over 400 hours of et:qw; i was at one point ranked top 1k but now the rank servers went down. In all honesty I have only 3 complaints about quake wars, first that the rank servers went down, and the second is that new official maps were never released.

I have been following brink for a while, and overall it looks like it is going to be an excellent game with many advances to the genre, but I have noticed one thing that I feel will restrict it’s popularity - the total lack of playable female characters.

Is there something in the game lore that prevents females from fighting in the Arc? Or is this simply a horrible oversight?

Or is someone at splash damage a misogynist?!

I am just kidding about the last thing, but really. wtf?

First of all, that’s only 2 complaints about ETQW.

Second, there has already been 10 threads about this. Search.

It’s cause of the vast amount of customisation available in the male characters. The options were awesome customisation or limited customisation for 2 sexes. They chose the former.

I think Splash Damage should incorporate a huge sign into the Brink logo saying “No. There are no female characters.”

i have a hard time imagining it taking much more work if they simply made the light model female from the start. they had to design 3 separate models and they had to produce a fit for each piece of clothing on each model. Its not like if you made one of the models female you had to put skirts and dresses in the game.

That wouldn’t work since EVERY character starts off as medium, and you have to unlock the option to make your character light.

are you suggesting you put your character on a diet and he either loses or gains like 80 lbs?

First, ranked servers should have never existed in the first place, thankfully this has been rectified in Brink.

Second, they are plenty of new maps but sadly for you, your official fetish prevents you from playing them.

Third, erm yeah.

it would also require full mocap again so female movements can be implemented.

I remember back in ETQW, I just couldn’t bring myself to play as Strogg.
Even in stopwatch massive cough That said, I was quite upset that none of the GDF models looked like me, so I just sucked it up and played the game.

No, I’m suggesting that it is a game - a fictional work meant for entertainment purposes. This precludes it from having to strictly follow the laws of nature.

In before close… Just like you I really wish to see female skin, but the dev said they didn’t do it due to time and cost… Still the game being delayed many time and with the lacks of infos those last month, I really wish to see this one day.

Still, before Splash says womens are in, it’s a NO.

Who actually cares about female characters for god sake… Just because some weirdos want to w*nk over female characters doesn’t mean the rest of us do… Some of us have real women in our lives without needing them in a game we play whilst trying to escape them.

Protector, I doubt most people asking for female characters all into that category.

A summary of the how’s and why’s behind the lack of female characters can be found at http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?p=209517#post209517
