Lets do again 10 page thread about female models!
Female Characters in ET:QW
So, I thought, who better to drop the engineers off at the emp than someone who won’t be distracted by a pointless desire to shoot things on the way? Perhaps, with a simple reskinning, a whole new player base could be attracted to the game?
With females gradually entering the player base, the posters here and the other players around the net will gradually become accustomed to the idea, the fear of the unknown will diminish, and eventually we will be comfortable with the idea of “girls”. Then perhaps in a few more generations of gamers, the world will be ready for a female player model.
For those here who are unclear precisely what this would entail, google should be able to quickly find you many, erm, very detailed lessons in anatomy, but basically you just need to slap another 8 polygons on the chest and some longer hair.
Then all we need is a /dance console command and the most annoying segment of our existing player base will be too busy operating their sentry guns to TK me, and we can be said to truly have the “WoW!” factor
This thread is full of terrible arguments against female models, so I’m just going to quote this person (even though they’re one of the more positive replies) and ramble onto some of the other points.
Oh, and also, most of you seem to miss the point that minkee’s recognised that it’s too late to put female models in the initial release of QW, but is referring to future games. Although I’m going to use QW as an example because it’s something we all understand.
It wouldn’t require any extra modelling or skinning time at all. If they picked out one class - Field Ops, say - to have a female model instead of male, then it’d take basically just as long. You’d have to record some extra female voices, yes. And how many days would that take? Do you think the sound department is running at full capacity throughout the game’s development? I’m sure there’s more than enough spare time down at the recording studio to knock out another set of comms while the programmers are trying to stop people climbing into invisible cars and what-not. It’s add nothing onto the overall project length, and would probably just cost a couple of grand to pay for studio time, the voice actress and some sound engineers.
If you read what minkee’s saying, she’s not demanding that all classes have female player models, or that people pick their class according to their gender, but just that there’s a female presence in the game world, so that female gamers aren’t so excluded. And that doesn’t just mean waving your hands and saying “Strogg are female”
TBH, I can’t think of any non-deathmatch type game that has female models (BF2, BF2142, etc) only have male models.
Yes - that’s the problem.
No-one’s going to start arguing that we should re-write history and have platoons of female SS troops gambolling over France in the next CoD, but in a sci-fi game like QW, there’s really no reason to say that women wouldn’t be involved.
Quoting modern-day statistics about military personnel (approx. 10% of the US armed forces - a considerable minority) doesn’t really say anything, because the role of females in the army has expanded hugely over the last century, and who’s to say they won’t be serving on the front line in an age of cybernetics and powered suits? Quake 2 was set not long after QW, and that had female soldiers in.
I think the only reason games like QW don’t feature female characters is because the developers don’t think to put them in. All-male characters are the status quo, so why change? And then there’s the player demographics… female FPS fans are outnumbered by the sexist, teenage cretins who would no doubt run around screaming “U R TEH GURL CLAS” at anyone who picked this female FOps I mentioned earlier, so cutting female characters is the path of least resistance. Personally, I don’t think that’s good enough.
Thats all well and good, but how would you get round the fact that their norks would get in the way of whatever gun they were holding?
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, that is seriously funneh! I know its sexiest but I have genuinely got a massive smile on my face after that line!
Tbh I can understand the grievance lady gamers would have. It doesnt really seem like that big a deal to me but im coming from the side which is catered for. I guess it really boils down to the demographics of modern armies and they are mostly male.
Perfect Dark had the lead character as a female so perhaps small steps have been taken already!
Stupid answers aside, the main reason there are no female player models/classes/options in ETQW is that we… forgot. Coming from a WW2 shooter, we were a little blindsided to the possibility of including both sexes in our new game.
I’m sure it’ll be something we bear in mind for future titles.

Best answer Ever![/quote]
I would think that Strogg would use any bodies they could get their hands on. Male or female. Stroggify them both and send them to fight just the same.
On the other hand the enemy soldiers would be where they’d get the majority of the bodies, and I guess they’d be mostly male.
Day in the life of a female strogg agressor/technician/constructor.
“Oops I broke a nail on my nailgun.”
First of all, hi.
Yes, because everything else in the game is strictly realistic.
You can’t see your own character anyway so if you jump on a server full of blokes with your female avatar on
You can’t see your hair, therefore you walk around unkempt and unshaven?
To be honest, I can’t see how putting in extra hours on modelling and voice acting can improve the game in any way gameplay wise, and thats all that matters.
The truth is, that my ingame character carries a great importance for me, experience wise. More often than not, I will pick a female avatar, not because I can see her, but for the feel of the thing. If you can’t or don’t want to include female characters, it’s ok, just don’t hide behind wooden shields such as these concocted excuses.
Games are made to make you feel good, that’s what good gameplay is all about.
Holy thread-ressurecting batman.
While you are mostly free to voice your opinion, I think you missed the discussion…
this is reason, no need to comment further

Well, this is certainly nice to hear. Alas, this isn’t the only title with that issue, e.g. FarCry 2, where the supposed motives are financial. It’s ok if they think it’s a bad investment, but I just don’t like it when people try to justify exclusion of females as something matter-of-course.
Anyway, cool forum. Love the emoticons & sorry for the exhumation.
Welcome to the forum, feel free to check the Stickies, and search can be your friend
btw, some of the Strogg are actually female, but they’re shy and won’t tell anyone
