Feel like I can't ever play with my favorite classes because team always needs an engy or medic.

(Anaconda) #1

Getting a little frustrated really often by not being “able” to choose to play as a class I like because the team needs a different class and I try to play with good ethic/teamwork. Last night, had to force myself to play as Proxy for two rounds straight because no one on the team was going engineer and we had 3 fraggers, a phantom and a sparks…on Chapel!

I mean, I like teamplay, but my favorite classes are Skyhammer and Phantom, yet I feel I’m never able to play those classes because it’s so often that teams are playing TDM instead of objective. And yes, I did ask if anyone can switch to engineer besides me, and the only response I got was “Stop Q.Q and just play”, from a guy playing the whole round as Fragger and not trying to repair or push the EV.

This isn’t an isolated incident, happens all the time, and is really lowering my enjoyment of the game, as I’m split between bein a d!ck and just playing my favorite classes like it’s TDM, or being a team player and working objective, and having less fun.

Play with friends. You’re going to run into this with any game that has team based objectives. Of course this won’t happen every match. In fact, many games have people who ware fully willing to play medic or engineer. But sometimes you’ll end up with teams filled with Skyhammers. It happens. Easy solution is either leave the server if you aren’t having fun and find another one or play with friends.

If you want to play certain class’s regularly and want to play for for objectives and not just messing around in TDM have you considered joining a team? Bound to be a crowd you can roll with in forum section ive linked.

I enjoy a variety of mercs in DB, so it doesn’t matter too much for me - I’ll happily switch between all the roles and still love it.

There comes a point where you have to just let it go in publics. Play what you want to play, don’t feel forced into roles for the sake of winning. Forcing out a win and hating it is far less enjoyable than taking the loss but having fun. I’ve had similar happen in plenty of other games where I just can’t stand the way publics/pugs/whatever play out, and I have to find myself an actual team.

Well, I never really play with clans because I don’t use a microphone (speech impediment, people won’t understand what I’m saying and it’s embarrassing), and you kinda have to talk if you want to be a useful clanmate.

Just play the classes you want to play. If you’re good enough at them it doesn’t really matter if an engineer was a better pick anyway.

Everyone else sure does.

Then I become part of the problem, and the team loses because we had no engineers to repair EV or no Medics to revive.

(Ghosthree3) #8

Or you carry the game by doing your role well instead of shoehorning yourself into something you can’t.

Also you do become part of the problem, but that problem is never ever going away. If you think by playing what’s needed instead of what you want other people are going to follow suit you’re in for a big surprise.

Especially in pubs, you can deal with nobody being a medic and having some Skyhammer repair the EV - sure, it’s not optimal play, but… that’s publics. I don’t think the addition of an engie/medic is going to make the rest of the team start performing better.

If you put this in your recruitment post you may be surprised, over the past 12 years of playing online games ive played with many people who can not speak, they have sat on coms servers listening but that’s enough for some coordination.

If you can listen to coms and type some responses in chat its enough, it will certainly be a step up from your current situation.

Not all clans/teams are super serious coms are a must

i think that raising the points given for objectives to a bizzarre amount for about a 1 weeks would do the trick.
by doing this those people just playing tdm would be at the bottom of the scoreboard and during this week there should be no k/d displayed after each match just points

i think this would retrain people to play more obj focused and it could be made into an event … something like tryhard week or maybe just a tryhard weekend would do the trick

(srswizard) #12

Try making a smurf account, and just do whatever you want to do in the game, and don’t take this as an encouragement for trying cheats, because I’m talking legit things only.
Jokes aside, I just feel like I can play whichever merc I want, on my smurf, and fully focus on the game, without pressure.

(Eox) #13

This is why I never play alone. Too much people caring more about their K/D ratio than everything. On EU servers it’s more and more common that I end in servers with not a single medic reviving or healing, not a single engie playing the objective and not a single fire support sharing ammo. And those are not even new players.

Find some friends : everything should be better after that.

Do you really except any co-op from Pubs?
When i do play on pubs i kill here and there, maybe i will repair something maybe not, if i feel like i will go across the map to get you up, but sometimes i just drop med-packs for myself. I don’t play the classes that are needed for the win, i play the ones that i have missions for, or the ones i want to play, either to test them out or just as a whim.
That what casual gameplay is for.
The only place where i put the team over my “personal ass”, is when i play Competitive, because i know people came there in order to win, so did i.
Don’t get me wrong, i always play to win giving my best, but when i play in Pubs i do not except anything from my team and i rarely do favors for my them. Thanks to it, i do not have to deal with the experience OP is, complaining about the lack of any team-work in the pub games.
I do understand your frustration, but imho, it’s not like the casual players are to be blamed. It’s more like you are trying to bring competitive aspects of the game to casual servers, instead of joining competitive scene you desire.
Just a another note, even in the competitive game with the randoms, getting along might be an issue, finding your own teammates would be the best thing to solve all your issues.

(AirborneVolley) #15

I agree with Amerika, when you play with friends either on an online server or a competetive match, you are able to switch mercs each round. You can make a sort of rotation between who plays medic, engineer etc. On random servers i’m afraid you just have to play with what the team needs. Proxy isn’t too bad anyway.

(Cesmode) #16

I think upping the rewards for winning might encourage people to stop being so Rambo and play as a team and more objective based.

I’ll admit, however, that sometimes when Im camping a spot, and no one is around, I get the itch to move. But I know the moment I do I’ll run into a team of Rhinos ready to ruin my evening, or the opposite team will plant c4…

(affableTricycle) #17

This is what I really dislike. I love to play Sparks but I suck at getting headshots at range, so I tend to avoid combat entirely and go pure-support. But if the people I’m supporting are shit, I’d be helping much more playing Fletcher.

edit: HELP ME I DON’T KNOW WHAT WENT WRONG WITH THE FORMATTING

You’re missing an end /quote is all. I agree with Sparks, I’m not great with quick, long ranged headshots using the revivr because you can’t indefinitely hold the charge while you line up the shot. I get the occasional beautiful headshot, but they’re pretty infrequent. I can fight decently with her primary weapons, but I’m far more effective with other medics. Her health pack buffs are tempting me to try her again for a bit.

Easy for you to say, you have friends.
