You do realize that the majority of players here are going to be using Qwerty keyboards, instead of Azerty? I have no qualms with having the option to switch between the two, but wanting the system changed just because it’s not what you like is ridiculous.

Even with Azerty, VRM is becomes a chore, since the M key is even farther away from your left hand than it is on a Qwerty board. And VRA, regardless of which kind of keyboard you use, locks up two of your action keys. The system is fine as is. V21 and V22 take little time and effort to hit without looking at your keyboard, and the rest aren’t used nearly as often.

And also the long jump is very simple. Press C right before pressing Space while holding down left Shift. Bam. Long jump.

“Better” voice command idea is horrible, an excellent example of idea that havent been thought thru even a bit.
Due to the fact that DB utilizes a lot more keys that Smite and in different layout and different players use custom layouts on their own. Something like that would mess up game badly. It will either not work, since player is alredy using set keys or it will override preset controls, leading to a lot of rage “dammit, got killed because of this stupid voicechat hijacking my controls”.
Current system has been around for ages, it works and dosnt interfere with main controls. Takes gettign used 2, true, but its far better than proposed “improvement”.
What i would like to see is rebindable commands, eg shortcuts for commands. I used to make a lot of those in ET, to report ammo or health, or enemy sightings, by simply tappind one of NUM keys. And i dont mean editing .ini or .cfg files(those should be locked to begin with and moddign them should be bannable, 2 much abuse going on), but an actual ingame menu in options, along the simple macroses, like | if “health” “<” “20” “%” say “medic” |.

SD always used v## commands while the Tribes series always used vgs “shazbot !” system (Hi-Rez did tribes : ascend and left it to its own fate before smite). Both system have their benefits, both system have their drawbacks. Remembering the commands is very personal and it’s just a matter of getting used to it. Personally I’m more used to the v## system because W:ET and Urban Terror were two my first online games.

The only advantage the vgs system has over v## is that it does not overlap with weapon selection. Similarly, vgs overlaps with movement and other commands, which is worse imo. You sometimes need to stop your move or worse, you can launch abilities if you missed the v key. And just to mention something, vgs is top cr4p for players who are left handed (implied, who are using their mouse with their left hand). But we live in right-hand ergonomics world, so I shoudn’t even say that.

Two ideas for voice commands :

  • Put a key to return the voice list (like the key on the left of 1 and over tab, I’m French so I don’t remember what it is on a QWERTY layout, sorry). This enables players to have all their commands regrouped on keys from 1 to 5.
  • Add more useful commands. There’s no commands regarding enemy activity right now. That would sound useful. I don’t like using voip in game and simple commands like “enemies are in the left side” or “an enemy has sneaked behind us” are clear enough to make all your team aware of what you just saw.

i just unbound all radio commands and use voice chat… i mean common the game has in game comms enabled and it takes the same amount of time to ask for ammo without losing control of your merc by hitting 3 different keys one after another u just say “insert name here, gip me ammo thx”
mics arent expensive i live in freakin south east asia where prices for gaming equipment are jacked up higher than gasoline prices and there are mics that goes for $9 and have pretty good quality…

Can’t say I’ve ever lost control of my merc because I was V-chatting…

At least I’d like to have better voice chat menus, configurable in size and position and opacity… That would make its use easier.
Funny, while searching for info, I found this site : http://www.idearng.com/smite.html
It allows to practice Smite Voice guided system.

  • Voices to say your abilities are down would also be cool.
  • the notion of Left, Middle, Right might be useful. Well achieved by 1 for left, 2 for middle and 3 for right in Smite.
  • Voices to warn your teammates of incoming Air Strikes, Orbital Strikes, Turrets, etc…
