Feedback: Sprint

(Humbug) #1

Currently I ALWAYS sprint when I don’t shoot.
I think we need a sprint bar and be able to use sprint while shooting as well, just like in enemy territory.
You always had to decide if you use the sprint to get somewhere fast, or to strafe faster in a gunfight.
Also it would make fights faster while slowing down the respawns/reinforcements making deaths more meaningful so the game feels less deathmatch like (i hope you get what i mean).

I’m also not sure if HP vs Speed is the right way to balance mercs, the difference between 80 and 150 hp is just too high in my opinion.

What do you think?..

I think it’s fine as is, to be honest.

I do NOT want a Sprint bar. I like the mobility in this game as is and it doesn’t need to have yet another sprint bar/winded mechanic thrown into it like just about every other shooter out there. And I don’t want to see people sprinting and shooting. Right now you always have to choose between getting somewhere or getting away from somewhere fast without the ability to shoot or you have to slow down a bit.

One question : If sprint is unlimited, why not making mercs sprint by default ?
And what’s the use of walking ?

  1. footspets are less loud when you walk.
  2. weapon spread is higher right after the sprint (and right after jump). and when you walk and start shooting spread is in default value. so when you sprint and suddenly want to pin-point headshot some basterd in long range you just might miss because of spread.

for me the game just feels more like a deathmatch spamfest (like TF2) instead of an objective teambased shooter
no teamdamage also contributes to that feel

Don’t want sprint bar, sprint bar bad!

It’s in the OP, you can’t shoot while sprinting. And it takes time to bring up your gun after you’ve stopped sprinting.

What you’re asking for is already in the game, it’s called toggle sprint.

As I said in my RTCW unfortunate post: there should be a sprint stamina bar. Period. It will not cut down on the speed of the game because- non sprint run speed is already sexy.

OK, that makes sense, thx for the clarification

(Nail) #10

this has been discussed for 3 years now, there will be no stamina bar. Period.

^Thankyou

Btw, having an official list of all choices made by the dev team (strafejumps ? stamina bar ? disguise ? whatever ?) and their current status (accepted, refused, not decided) could be useful, and perhaps could avoid these kinds of posts ?

(Szakalot) #13

why would you expect strafejumps to be introduced? They belong to an entirely different game engine, not sure how much work it would be to put them in here, but sounds like an awful lot of playing around just to satisfy a bunch of die hard fans ; )

(ev1ldarks) #14

I don’t ask to have strafe jumps, I ask to have a list of all theses “player asked features” and the corresponding official dev decisions (already integrated, to be integrated, will never been integrated…) to avoid theses kinds of posts ^^

Btw, I know that adding strafe jumps in this engine would be really a hard work.

(Szakalot) #15

You are asking a lot.

Many design decisions in videogame design are based on:

  • this takes too much time to make
  • we don’t think its needed
  • we don’t know how to make it

Above that, features that are intended and ‘promised’ to the players, that would later get scrapped cause huge amounts of drama. Gamers are like voters in that respect, they will hold the DEV to scrutiny levels expected of politicians.

(Eox) #16

I agree, I wouldn’t mind a change like that though. It may add something interesting.

(evuze) #17

I’ve said I a previous post I don’t see the point of sprint. I turn it on when I spawn and forget about it. There’s no real drawbacks to having it on I’ve noticed and I only turn it off occasionally to walk quietly.

(appreciativeBuster) #18

I think it’d be great if we could gain speed instead of only do two jumps and lose momentum (if yer doin it wrong)

(Humbug) #19

doesn’t have to be a bar, i wouldn’t mind if it was a star xD (awesome rhymes there)

edit: it really would make things easier if a dev would come here from time to time and keep us updated what they’re planning/thinking.
I don’t think they want DB to feel like tf2 and i’m really interested in how they want to change this

(Zenity) #20

Not so much actually, I recently did it for UE4 (ported CPMA style physics) and it was really straight forward. But it doesn’t make much sense at this point unless the game is completely focused on this type of movement, and that’s clearly not the case with Dirty Bomb. Even ET had the movement gimped to such an extent that the physics weren’t all that relevant any more.
