Feedback on the details of the new weapon skin system.

First off, I am in full support of the new skins. They open up many ways for the developers to make money to actually make the game. This is nothing but a good thing, however i see that a bunch of people are yelling and screaming about how it is terrible, game now sucks, SD are just money hungry, etc.

So here are my personal feedback, and unlike cs and tf2, this system is open to change.

  1. Make all keys purchasable with credits. This helps divert the upfront cost of it so that if people REALLY can’t spend a dime, they have access to the nice skins. Perhaps maybe 25,000 credits for a key or something akin to the price of crafting a loadout card.
  2. Change the finishes. I’m not opposed to finishes, however it can feel annoying and upsetting to pay all that money, have RNG finally give you a cobalt skin, only to have it scarred. I’d make the minimum finish be standard, so you can only every get a better looking skin. Other than that, it is whatever.

That is my personal feedback on the new weapon skin system. I’m positive as time goes on there will be fixes and other tweaks to make it work better. I’m really excited for the new skins and getting into the economy of the steam market whenever that is a thing.

Side note- If loadout cards are ever going to be traded, please possibly have them part of an in-game trading system and not Steam.

Imo, this could be fixed up a lot by a Marketplace; sell what you don’t want, buy what you do want. Unfortunately, I just have absolutely no idea how this would bring any revenue to SD because atm, as afaik all of the known popular marketplaces like TF2, CS:GO are owned by Valve themselves, as is Steam.

Yeah, having RNG is bad enough. Having RNG on top of RNG in the form of subrarity finishes just seems horrible when you’re spending real money on it.

They do plan on adding a marketplace, just not right now as they want to make sure they have control over the new system before adding something like steam market, which is a valid reason.

TL:DR - I don’t like the key system but I understand it. Drop keys instead of cases.

Firstly, I gotta admit my enthusiasm for the weapon skins got obliterated when I learned about keys. It’s a system that I really dislike because weapon cases are useless without the keys, and keys aren’t just worth the money. It’s 2.50 $ for a gamble where the outcome isn’t rewarding enough. ONE skin for ONE weapon that can be used on ONE merc at a time just isn’t worth the money, and on top of that it probably won’t be very good too (bronze faded or whatever).

Secondly, this system means NOTHING to people that can’t or don’t want to buy keys. The cases will drop and they will go to the garbage bin (except event cases but we still don’t know the likelihood of them dropping a skin). It’s there but you can’t use it, unlike loadout cases that let you still enjoy the fullness of the game - with a lower chance.

Thirdly, I actually enjoy real camos - dragons, orange guns etc. aren’t really my cup of tea but I understand the appeal.

HOWEVER

I can live with this system. The game lets me experience all of its mechanical content FOR FREE. I really dislike AAA games using these systems but I tolerate and understand DB and TF2 for doing it. So I won’t be quitting DB for this, as long as it doesn’t impair the mechanical part of it - which I’m confident will never happen.

Last part is what I would change.

Drops don’t drop locked cases but keys. (normal) locked weapon cases can be then bought from the store for credits.
Keys can still be bought from the store, ideally with both credits and cash. ‘Elite’ weapon cases can be bought with cash and come open from the factory.
Drop rates and prices need to be adjusted accordingly, but IMO this system lets the nonpayers enjoy (albeit very slightly) the skin system and it’s an incentive to buy more keys from the store. Hell even I would buy some keys if I could experience the system sometimes without spending real cash, so I would have a couple of low to mid grade skins just for the sake of it.

Oh, and I would love if loadout cards came with all the previous weapon skins (bronze would have iron and lead skin, silver would let you use bronze iron or lead etc…)

My 2 centsm sorry if it got long.
