I am an Enemy Territory veteran. According to Steam I have played Dirty bomb for a heroic 76.2 hours in the last 2 weeks. I really like the game and assume that since it’s still in beta you do actually want feedback of this kind. I have the following observations:
- Proximity mines shouldn’t explode if neutralized before they arm. It’s annoying to get blown up by a mine that hadn’t even armed yet.
- Any hit should neutralize a deployable while it is being set up. Otherwise you get deployables spam in combat, since people can deploy and shoot at the same time.
- Cancelling one quick action by using another causes you to get stuck holding the wrong thing - eg quick detonate while using quick bomb will get you stuck holding your bombs instead of your gun. Quick knife while using quick revive will get you stuck with your paddles out, etc. At least add an option for quick action always to revert to your gun instead of the thing you cancelled out of.
- Revive gives too much health. It is very annoying to kill someone and have them instantly revived to >50% health. 25%-50% is much more reasonable. There is no incentive for medics to keep people alive when reviving gives so much health anyway. It is infuriating when Rhino gets revived to full health in combat.
- It is obviously a deliberate choice for quick knife not to be an instant kill. Nevertheless it is very annoying when people survive being stabbed and then kill you. I don’t see what this is supposed to add to the game, especially since “quick” knife is quite slow and you can’t cancel out of it.
- Static machine guns have collision issues that make them annoying to jump / shoot / grenade past (especially the one in the first stage of Trainyard). The invisible box around the gun is too big.
- Corridor exit near the static machine gun at the beginning of Trainyard has a jagged edge that can block players trying to run out. I’m not sure why it was designed this way, but it’s annoying.
- The HUD minimap could be vastly improved. Show deployables on the map. Give each class of merc a different map icon.
- When you are downed, the view should lock on to any nearby medic.
- More crosshair options please. I would especially like the option of some kind of ammo indicator on or near the crosshair.
- The new radio effect for voices is annoying and doesn’t really add anything to the game.
- We need a “we need an engineer!” quick voice line!
- Voting doesn’t seem to work. I have never seen a vote pass.
Cosmetic things
- Why can’t all the character voiceovers be as good as Fletcher? Most are quite good (Fletcher is brilliant) but Fragger is lifeless and Kira is embarrassingly bad. Her lines are fine but the current personality-free delivery just ruins them. If you couldn’t find a real Japanese person I don’t think anyone would have objected to another comedy foreign accent.
- Mercs shouldn’t say thank you when using their own medic / ammo station, etc.
- Mercs shouldn’t say “changing mag” when reloading a shotgun (does this happen? I think so.)
- Aura and Bushwhacker would look better if they were only carrying their deployables when they were able to deploy them.
Bugs
- I still get black rectangles appearing at the end of Chapel and sometimes on Underground (Radeon card).
- It is still possible to get stuck if you die while using a static machine gun and are then revived.
- The drug samples / EMP charges can be difficult and sometimes impossible to interact with when dropped. Very occasionally they can disappear.
