Feedback from an Outsider

(SDuby) #1

Hey! I am new to this forum and was added to the alpha in this past week and this is my feedback:

i) I’ve played games like BF3, MW3, Crysis 3, 2, and 1, so that’s my background.

  1. It’s a refreshing feeling to play a game like DB that feels so smooth and lacking annoying gimmicks that those “AAA” titles have. So, props to the devs for the smooth factor.

  2. I think the pace of the game is too slow. If it was sped up more so it would be a lot more interesting, and difficult and raise the skill ceiling.

  3. One thing that’s similar to Crysis 3 is the head shots from behind. For some reason, everyone is crouching over and I can see less of their head making it more difficult to get a headshot. I feel like I should be rewarded for outmaneuvering an opponent and getting behind them and not punished.

  4. Hitboxes are kind of small; they don’t register on stuff like gear and hands.

  5. I really liked class based objectives. It forced a team to have certain classes and will definitely force teams in competitive based games as well which drives the diversity.

  6. Certain maps (didn’t take note), have REALLY confusing spawns. I feel like if I’ve moved 10ft from my spawn I shouldn’t need to be checking my back already. It did get better as I learned the maps more, but even as an defender of the EV, I can remember a few times where I spawned behind the guys moving the EV and wiped them out completely. I feel like the spawns may need to be more intricate based on where the EV is.

It’s a lot of complaints, but aside from that, I’m really enjoying the game!

I would guess that EV map was a daytime one? That would be London Bridge and because the path of the EV loops on itself (goes over the overpass then under it), even if the defenders’ spawn is technically ahead of the EV, there are obvious paths to be to the top of the overpass that will take you behind the attackers once the EV has crossed it. But by doing so you’re actually placing yourself between the attackers’ spawn and the EV, so watch your back for respawning enemies…

agree this is to slow …

there is no more Classes based objective …

(SDuby) #4

That’s probably the one!

(SDuby) #5

I know, I played on the patch where they had that feature and I liked it more.

(BomBaKlaK) #6

Ok …

just out of curiosity, what do you mean by the pace of the game being too slow - do you mean movement and stuff like that, time it takes to do stuff, time to kill, frequency of encounters?

i’d like to see faster, more responsive movement - i can do without gunfights every 1.2 seconds…
just wondering what people mean by slow/fast pace.

(rookie1) #8

mb if someone new start with a soldier which is slower they might think all char are like that…not saying that your case SDuby …btw Welcome

I feel like the movement is too slow, specifically. I’m coming from Crysis 3 where the movement was faster, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtrKaKKVnX8 and I preferred it that way. Of course, that may have adverse side effects in this game.

When you use a gratuitous amount of “…” after each thing you say, you’re implying that the person you’re talking to is not understanding something you’re trying to talk about, or is just dumb. Are you trying to convey that? If not, I would suggest not doing things like this…

Thanks for welcoming me! I play mostly medic and and what the guys I’ve been playing with have been calling “lt”, which I assume stands for lieutenant.

(Volcano) #10

i would like to try movement speed dependent on the class they play, solider being the slowest due to the heavy equipment, medic/engy/fops same speed, covie the fastest. Knife increases movement speed (like cs)

In my opinion there should be amount of our HP, not only a bar like it was in RtCW/ET. Old school thing and much more better than “new features”.

This game is too much similar to Brink. I have to say that i actually have not played Brink but that what i’ve seen on gameplayes on youtube gives me this conslusion. I know Splash Damage is a studio which made Brink and now making Dirty Bomb but in my opinion you should be more elastic while making new game, to not give people reason to say that you are like devs of CoD which just make same game every year with other maps and weapons. I am huge fan of RtCW which is actually ET father, so You should check this game out, i dont mean by that to copy it with new engine etc. but that game got a climat, that is why people since RtCW was published (2001) still play this awesome game.

(Volcano) #12

people really play rtcw still?

(h2o) #14

They do Volcano. I am not sure if you know that, but there is currently tournament there, 6v6 shoutcasted by Warwitch and MG Crew.
Here is a link for it: http://www.twitch.tv/warwitchtv

In my opinion going this way would make Dirty Bomb just better and no one will regret.

Everyone who had played rtcw come back to this game after many years and is happy that he is able to play such a great game.

(Volcano) #15

it might be what a lot of you want but it won’t sell

(BomBaKlaK) #16

I add some … cause a message need 10 chars that’s all, nothing more, nothing less.
I don’t think your dumb, i don’t like the new obj system that’s all.

That’s why I’m not asking for ETQW2. It would only satisfy a small group of players who still haven’t gotten over the fact that majority of consumers weren’t interested. We can easily retain a lot of the really good core stuff, but we have to be hugely open to completely new things and devise ways of attracting the average consumer. The fact is that DB should really be about retaining ‘quality of play’ and ‘dynamic game play’ whether that means identical mechanics or not. If it functions and offers a challenging experience then I’m all about it.

I’d really love to see an end of the mentality ‘this won’t work in the comp scene I envision’ or ‘I don’t find this as fun’ because everyone has their own agenda based off what they already know. We need an actual fan base substantial enough to make this genre successful in every possible aspect, otherwise we’re basically asking for charity. It’s just a plain fact of life whether we like it now or not. The goal should be to make DB a game that is attractive, fun, and functional for the most people possible. So far there’s been a lot of crap and there’s been a lot of promise, so to me that’s progress if our impatient nips can handle an alpha test. My biggest complaint about this alpha is that the rate of patching has been very slow, but I am hoping to see more rapid updates and tests coming up.

(slanir) #18

Even if the competitive player base of game X doesn’t approve of dirty bomb a new one will rise, I’m sure of it. And in a couple of years time they will sit on the forums of splash damage next new game and complain that the game isn’t dirty bomb

(Kendle) #19

QFTW. Totally agree with this statement. Those of us who’ve been around long enough remember how the majority of ET players hated ET:QW when it was released, and the majority of RTCW players hated ET when it was released.

(DarkangelUK) #20

I can somewhat agree, but then I think “Brink”.
