A large part of me is glad that there isn’t any functional variation to cards higher than Bronze, as this helps keep a Pay To Win aspect to a minimum. However, it might still be nice if there were at least some motivation to go for higher classes… one potential option:
When receiving a loadout card of higher classes, the ability to choose between random augments/perks to that card.
Bronze would be normal: you get 3 perks.
At Silver you would get 3 perks, and a 4th in reserve. You can slide this 4th perk to replace one of the starting 3.
At Gold you would get 3 perks, and 2 more in reserve. You can slide 1 to replace 1.
At Cobalt you would get 3 perks, and 3 more in reserve. You can slide 2 to replace 2.
At Obsidian you would get 3 perks, and 3 more in reserve. You can slide these 3 to replace 3.
In my opinion this shouldn’t change gameplay too significantly as to make it pay-to-win. Players aren’t given free-reign over crafting a perfect character, and even then: they’re still dealing in perks common to everyone.
