Feature Request - Match In Progress Info

(SnakekillerX) #1

This has a been bugging me for a while, figured I’d speak up about it and see if maybe something could be done in a future patch.

While you are waiting in queue to join a server it shows the Match In Progress with some information taken from the server including:

Server Name
Number of Players
Player Names

Map Name
Mode Type

I’m hoping that we could get just a tad more information to help with knowing how long your wait might be, or at least just have something to look at while you wait. (as people often leave at the end of a match, giving you that opening to join)

Current Objective - (1/3)
Time Remaining - 5:24

This would help me out a lot as I can guess more or less how long this match will last.
I can decide if I want to stay in this queue, or find another server. I also know if I there is a chance that I can go AFK for a quick moment to get a drink, etc before the match starts.

What do you guys think?

Totally agree on that but then again people can just join at the end, get their daily bonus/case and piss of afterwards.

In terms of additional info id like to see:
time played
time remaining(its a subjective value, but still)
progress(each map can be divided into logical parts, allowing joining player to have an average idea how far along match is; similar to the way its implemented in Stopwatch, but more detailed); like Chapel could be divided into 5 parts(pre- EV repair, up to the chapel curve, up to EV escort completion, delivery 1 and delivery 2)

It would definitely be nice and also be inline with features other games have. The game is only partially Steam integrated at this point and I’d wager this particular information wouldn’t be too hard to add while they do that.

However, it might also be a conscious decision to not have that information be available in the game so that people aren’t cherry picking servers for a few different credit and statistical reasons. Personally that wouldn’t bother me too much as I doubt it would be heavily prevalent. But it’s food for thought.

Need to remember though, you don’t see any of this information unless the server is full and you are already waiting to get in, so people can’t really choose to cherry pick, or join in at the end, etc… as they still having to wait for someone to leave so that they can join.

I had imagined this to be mostly so that you aren’t quite as bored while waiting for that opening.

That being said, there are definitely things that shouldn’t show up, like players positions as people could exploit that by using a friend to relay information.

Helpful to see what’s the stage on the current map instead of joining in when the team is about to win/lose. +1

They should lock games that are on the last objective and have less than two minutes left, the final round of Execution, if the final objective is about to go off if a c4 or if the last delivery objective is close where it needs to be. It’s really annoying loading into a match and then it ending immediately. That usually causes me to crash when I join those games, so I’d prefer not having that happen.

Wonder if we should tag someone to this so Splash actually see it?

I brought this up in another thread and all I was really asking for is just to give me a 1 or 2 minute warning when it’s on the last stage. I’d really be totally ok with just that and nothing else.

Bumping this one last time, as there seems little draw back (none) to adding such feature, yet people seem to want it.
