Hey guys,

Happy Voting

(ps i had to delete some maps because of the numbers of polls was exceeded)

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #2

oh and also forgot to say to post what you think, i think everyone would like to here about different maps and what people think and compare them

(ziege) #3

What about Carnage?

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #4

Like i said - i didnt have enough room

(ziege) #5

(ziege is on drugs or something/ignore this post)

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #6

oh ok

is carnage any good?

(ziege) #7

I only played briefly but from what I saw YES it’s very good  I liked the custom voice-commander sounds especially. I think Rhine2 still looks nicer though so I voted for that, even though I find it a bit too small.

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #8

ah ok - i think password 2 is gr8

(Velorum) #9

IMO carnage 2 is by far the best map released…so this poll is quite incomplete as your leaving out a great number of people who love carnage 2.

However considering your list i would choose password 2, but still that is a distant second to carnage 2.

The reason carnage 2 is so great, is because there are the trenches and the many different ways to get to the objectives yes plural because like flak cannon carnage 2 requires the destruction of 2 objectives Manuevering around the axis complex is very intuitive and the team door entrances into the complex encourage teamwork. Also there are plenty of spawn point options for the axis to get to any area of enemy infiltration with ease.

The major gripes i had with rhine 2, was that he didn’t account for stacking. The map is nice although the allied trenches are virtually never used and stacking can become a very annoying problem.

If you want entrance into the axis base get 2 people by the team door to the left of the axis base and have the eng step on the first guys face. Jump over and plant the dynamite.

Also if the bridge is made and you want to destroy it for sure, have 2 guys go under the bridge and have an eng step on a guys head to get to one of the supports for the bridge, plant on the support under the bridge and watch all the allies cry because they can’t disarm it.

Another problem is the area in which the axis spawn is so narrow that allied mortars have no trouble getting mad kills and pinning the axis to thier spawn.

I’m not saying Rhine 2 is bad…i just think it could be a lot better.

No map is perfect, but at least Rhine 2 doesn’t look like a dog’s dinner, which Carnage Canyon 2 does

(Velorum) #11

ok gerbil that last post was simply asanine. If you were trying to make a point by using examples you failed miserably. You failed to prove your point…sure everyone in here will believe some dude who says carnage canyon 2 looks like a dog’s dinner because why? I don’t know because he said so and obviously he knows a lot about ET considering he goes to the splash damage forum. Pft

I’m not going to turn this into an argument, and this is all i will say.

I was trying to prove that carnage canyon 2 deserves a place on this list by comparing it two the most popular map according to votes. I wasn’t trying to denounce anyone’s favorite map, i just wanted to give some validity to the fact that RTCC2 (carnage canyon 2) was a good map.

As far as your comment goes…although i shouldn’t dignify it with a response considering the point you made is not supported with any evidence…i will still defend RTCC2 by saying that the textures used along with the level design and style of the map made it a perfect and realistic combination.

Take Rhine…the trenches though nice are never used…i mean the placement is just rediculous…i mean trenches behind a railroad track…come on!!

Not to mention the wooden pier, and 2 sets of stairs on the slopes of the river make no sense graphically either. I mean why would stairways be used on either side of a river, especially when a perfectly good bridge is just a few feet away. It makes no sense from a logical point of view…but these key locations prove vital to gameplay

So if your asking whcih map looks more realisitc i again would have to go with RTCC2 because the placement of its major obstacles are believable.

barbed wire and concrete tank blockers on the beach head - believable
high slopes for the canyon - believable
embedded mg nests in the cliffs and small mountain - believable
trenches beyond the beach head linking to the axis complex - believable

So why does carnage canyon look so bad…sure there are two instances of missing textures, but they are located in parts of the map that are soo seldomly used that many people rarely notice the map was flawed to begin with.

Again, this is a moot point considering my opinion doesn’t matter, i was simply trying to give some validity to why i think carange canyon 2 deserves a spot on the list more than some maps…such as “the dust”

(G0-Gerbil) #12

On the contrary your opinion is as valid as anyone else’s here.
Because I map, it annoys me seeing people churn out ugly maps with little / no effort gone into the making.

Of course, the best looking map in the world can play like rubbish, and a bad looking map can play extremely well.

The problem is, why can’t maps have the best of both worlds?

Because map play-styles are a matter of taste, I tend to be more generous to a good looking map that doesn’t play quite so well as a god-awful map that plays OK.

Bad (looking / playing) maps killed off the RTCW custom scene, and I don’t want the same happening here. Sad to say, most early maps for a new game are terrible. The only minor blessing in this case is we’ve got a few people who have done decent maps in RTCW coming over, but I’m still waiting for the killer custom map (wizernes was it for RTCW if anything was, but it still wasn’t ‘enough’ if you get my meaning).

While I applaud anyone’s efforts who starts mapping (I mod a mapping forum BTW, I DO like mapping and helping others!), it doesn’t mean I like the end results by default. Anyway, at least where I criticise a map I try to make it constructive, rather than just blow random meaningless praise (eg CC, make the terrain a bit more realistic - max / min height is awful and lazy).

Anyway, must get on with my own ones - still have nowhere to host my bloody (amazing) church map grrrrrrrr (he said opening himself up for random viscious retaliations happily  ).

(chavo_one) #13

Hear, hear Gerbil!

(lennyballa) #14

Gerbil, look at www.enemyterritory.org in maps section…

(Fenris) #15

My vote also goes to Return to Carnage Canyon 2

(poorme) #16

My favorite custom map is Carnage 2 too…

(Sim) #17

My favorite map is MML Church ET by G0-Gerbil. The texture and details in the map is fucking incredible. I can really understand what G0-Gerbil is talking about.

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #18

I really think that carnage although does look shit - is the best custom map released.
Password 2 and Rhine 2 only fall behind because of non usuable areas which means that the developer didnt really think of the map as a player but as a simple mapper and scaper

(SirLiveAlot) #19

I would also have to agree that the church map is great. I’ll have a review of it up at the 16th[plug] http://www.deathillustrated.com/sirlivealot/et/ [/plug]. Maybe the html humor is the sign i’ve been working with too much html lately :eek3: .

(G0-Gerbil) #20

BB tags surely?
Otherwise you’d be using <plug> instead of [plug].

One thing is for sure, you’ve overloaded on the internet

Gonna go grab some more custom maps and take a cynical look at them soon
