it has come to the point i dare to publish some preview pics of my first and current
project: farm. since it’s my very first attempt to create a map, this map mainly is
intended as a self-tutorial learning the basics. thus it will be a ‘simple’ map with ctf
objectives. since it gets me bored carrying good ol’ gold crates, the ctf objects will
turn out to be something farm related. for now, i plan to let axis steal a sheep plus
hay and water to feed it. if they’re done, they finally have to call the butcher and…

Looks great. Kudios to you for the idea as well. A farm enciroment is no doubt one of the most true of WWII. I hope the game play is as great as the visuals.

Thore, screenshots look really great but I think the water should be “dirtier”. It looks really really clean. This is set on a farm and in the middle of a war so I would presnally like to see it brown and muddy looking

hehe, well, the download wont come around in the next weeks…still there’s too much to do.
interior of buildings, railway track… not to mention all the scripting. schaffer, i would like to
have the water somewhat dirtier… if not saying ‘i hate sd for making water crystal clear’
describes it better… lets see. i plan to give the water some fog first, making it unable to
see whats more than 5 steps in front of you. but i’ve read it’s called noobish just drowning
a fog brush :smiley:

gameplay… yeah, gives me a headache, too. i experiment with the terrain layout
between those two spawns. one possibility is ‘sawtooth’ terrain /| /| /| in this case
allowing to cross from left to right but forcing you to go the long way for right-left
direction movement. we’ll see…

maybe i forgot to mention HOW small the map is… it’s meant to be a 3on3 map.
total map size is somewhat of 16k16k units BUT actually accessible ground is only the
center square of 5k
5k dimensions… surrounding parts are supposed to be eye candy
only. this is due to my skyportal’s not working, forcing me to include ‘real’ terrain and
making the map size explode to current 3MB of size. i hope it will not hop over the 5MB
barrier :X

shaderman, I visited that server- thx!
thore, the dark truck: maybe it is a misc_gamemodel? try misc_model instead. Then it will be light (perhaps). Or maybe the truck is to low, into the ground? Try to raise it. (If the origin of a model is in another brush (the ground), then the model will not be light - I think).
The houses are very nice. Are you having trouble with light inside the houses? (The lights and shadows look ugly?) Select the inside of a house (SHIFT + click) and make it into a func_group. Then enter the key/value _lightmapscale/0.25. This will force the compiler q3map2 to make much nices shadows inside the house. (But the compile-time will also get longer. So try it on just 1 house, in the beginning.)
Great map! I like the “mine-field”, with exploding rocks!

just a quick note: if you connect to the server get the map first or make sure you have
cl_wwwdownload set to “1”. many many many guys tried to connect end then got
crashed to desktop (tus homepage). maybe we can set it as a forcecvar to ease
things out for ppl out there.

thx loffy for your feedback. i’m still somewhat unsure with the truck, but i’ll try to raise
it… not much that can be screwed up. the lighting inside the builings in no way is to be
considered final :wink: i just threw some lights in for getting something other than pitch-black
interiour :slight_smile:

hope to see you again on the server and get some gameplay feedback :moo:
