Fail AI?

(Dr.Ricktofen) #1

What’s with the AI? I thought the devs said they were very smart (pun not intended)

They were supposed to be human like, and would flank people and support you.

From what ive heard they are VERY dumb and get stuck, and on hard the enemy is impossible and your team is useless. What’s going on? Are they really that bad? And will SD release a patch to improve them.

(blithen) #2

MMMMMMMMMM, I would probably give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. Sometimes the get stuck and tweak out. But mostly I have a problem with the enemy AI, they mess around until like there is 2 or 1 minute left on the mission timer, then come in and murder everything out of no where and win the objective. x.x Meanwhile you have little billy the retard on your team getting mowed down by his AI counterpart. It’s really fun so far, but you really have to try if you’re playing singleplayer.

I thought the AI were decent not that they couldn’t patch them and make them better, but I bought the game to play MP against real peeps so the bots are not really a deciding factor for me. For me it is all about the game play which has been fun and entertaining so far.

(Dr.Ricktofen) #4

Bots are not a deciding factor for me either, but the problem is i have ps3, and with psn down im going to be playing with those bots for awhile.

(syndicatedragon) #5

I hope that they do tweak the bots some. Co-op is an advertised feature of the game, and honestly the current bots make it rather frustrating. They seem to have superhuman shooting skills, but otherwise aren’t terribly useful on your team. The bots on offense, at least on our team, seem obsessed with taking secondary objectives and getting into random firefights rather than accomplishing the objective (so perhaps they ARE human-like). I too have noticed the mission time behavior dependency. That has to go too IMO.

I find this surprising that there this bad, didn’t SD notice during the extra year they took to balance? SD has a few questions to awnser…

(Shojimbo) #7

To be fair SD did hype the AI themselves on quite a few occasions. Not played the game yet myself but am hearing all sorts of positive and negative reviews which all include criticism of the “bots”.

(blakingfire) #8

bad bad bad, and mad cause of the bs of those AI i hate playing games on easy or normal and let me tell ya these are DUMB AIs to the max on both enemies and friendlies side. I am going back to my gears on till PNS is back online campaign sucks ass. Not interesting to me at all its the same game style as multiplayer not sure why play it with these DUMB AIs, no help at all.

(Whydmer) #9

I’ve found the AI to be very human like in that sometimes they are helpful and sometimes an AI medic will stand 3m away from you firing away and never once send a revive syringe.

During MP games I am way to busy fighting to even try and figure out who is a Bot and who is human, unless a cool GT catches my eye.

(Mustkunstn1k) #10

They just explained how the AI works really well here: http://www.youtube.com/user/machinimarespawn

Maybe you guys can watch it after from somewhere.

(AKASneaky) #11

I think it’s processed by the CPU so the AI gets dumber the slower your CPU is. Which also explains why the XBOX AI isn’t good and that the game runs alot better in MP than in SP (well on PC it does not sure about Xbox).

(tokamak) #12

What they did was they instructed the bots to give the player a chance to do the objective themselves. If the player didn’t succeed before the time ran out the bots would jump in and do it for him, but until that time they would just let you be the hero.

Many people misconstrued this as bad AI.

(Je T´aime) #13

Hai newbcakes, bots are dinamic so they start kinda static like a newbie would, then get progressively better if u play with all humands and someone drops the bot that takes over is really good, so bots are dinamic.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #14

They programmed the AI of the bots to be like they are. Richard ham explained in the machinima stream that the bots arent stupid. They programmed them so the bots let you do the objectives to give you the ‘hero’ feeling. Then in the last few minutes they start ramping up the assault/defense.

(Dr.Ricktofen) #15

I don’t have Brink just yet so i could’nt tell, but that clears things up abit.

(Ix LP xI) #16

hint hint, the enemy team is very good because they are smart

[QUOTE=RAAAAAAAAAAGE;296646]They programmed the AI of the bots to be like they are. Richard ham explained in the machinima stream that the bots arent stupid. The game supposedly promotes and rewards teamwork, and yet they want to encourage a “hero”?

It would be fine if the bots would actually accompany you to the objective and support you, rather than obsessing over that command post you don’t care about. Too often I seem to be the “lone wolf”, the one guy who is actually trying to win…

(Dr.Ricktofen) #18

Hint hint, i like pie.

(tokamak) #19

It’s been successful in the past…

They want teamwork amongst players but they want you to be the hero amongst bots otherwise you’ll end up feeling the game is being played for you.

(dazman76) #20

As tokamak said, the hero thing is offline only. How could you make each player on a 16-player server a hero without making the other 15 less than a hero? Paradox, universe explosion. Not recommended.

I’m afraid the only way to really know how YOU feel about the AI, is playing the game. Seriously - Quake Wars AI was pretty damn useful, especially on higher skill levels - I have no reason to think SD can’t reproduce that with Brink. It might need patching/tweaking a bit, but most games do - and most games don’t try to do AI as intelligent as Brink’s
