Faction Skins/Character Models?

(PleasantWheat) #1

I read this somewhere before and I’m sorry I can’t give credit to who i saw come up with the idea but I digress

Basic jist of the idea is that we have 2 character models for each merc, one for each faction. So take Phantom for example; The current design could be used for when players play him on the jackal side, whilst the CDA phantom armour would be less blocky and have more curvature in design.

What are your opinions on this and if this were to be implemented what differences would you want to see between the mercs on CDA and Jackal.

it would sure be an easier way to tell friend from foe compared to “slightly darker camo” to “slightly brighter camo”, you have my support.

I’d love to see faction based character models. The question though I’d what to do about the 5 founders cards since their player models are significantly different from the reskins of the default cards.

Personally I don’t really see people using those cards very often, maybe once every 35 hours or so, so I guess they could be left alone or they could be given a unique character model as well specific to the founders card.

Ooh I like it.
How about Jackal Rhino has kind of old, scratched and scruffy looking armour/gear with an oily mini gun  and CDA Rhino has shiny looking gear.
Stoker could have a soot covered smudgy face model whereas CDA Stoker would be squeky clean.
Maybe Jackal Phoenix could have unsterilised syringes and go around tending to people with uncovered hands and maybe not wear a mask but CDA would have white gloves and keep clean all the time.
Sparks could have bed hair as Jackal and have it all spiking up.

Yeah stuff like that would be awesome, it would also give the factions a bit of personality which if the devs want to actually introduce more lore this would be perfect for it

Eww, I would never want to play on Jackal team then.

I wouldnt mind if it came from seperate loadout cards, but i would see jackal as a more richer group considering they have all the money to pay the mercs and provide them with c4, tools, etc. (Sorry, no oily Rhinos or bed head Sparks for you.)

(PleasantWheat) #9

I guess since jackal are private contractors their skins would be more military styled whilst cda is probably more a come as you are type deal

(Naonna) #10

Odd thing to add: It would encourage people to play offense or defense based on which merc skin they like more. - Adding inconsistency to player outlines may make it difficult for less experienced players to have trouble differentiating mercs, if they’ve become accustomed to a singular player shape per merc.

(PleasantWheat) #11

I really don’t think that would make any difference especially in a stopwatch game, “oh im going to play on defence twice in a row because SKINS” I’d like to think our community is a little more intelligent than that.
You could probably keep the overall silhouette and shape the roughly the same for the mercs but have different details whilst keeping some of the core components of what makes that merc unique. For example a minor thing could be Jackal proxy has welder gear over her face whilst cda proxy has gear up, things like that to keep with the “character” the merc has but also to differentiate good from bad. Mabye the card itself would switch camos depending on the side you end up on, yet keep your valuble guns and augments.

Also i laughed as i imagine Rhino with a wooden minigun that fires pencils.

(PleasantWheat) #13

@paramountGasoline I’m a little confused by your comment. Are you saying that I was saying there would be different cards per faction because that isnt the case. say you had a cobalt 383 sparks card yeah? The colour scheme and everything the card has would stay but the actual sparks player model would change per side

(Your worst knifemare.) #14

@PleasantWheat sorry about that, thought you meant cards.

(fluorescentUrchin) #15

this is cool, jackal could mercs could look unique like they do now and CDA mercs could look pretty uniform. Only problem is what would happen to speacial skins like “what the dickens” and founders

(PleasantWheat) #16

Like I said, only the player models would be different. The skins could be applied to the new models.

(fluorescentUrchin) #17

ah yeah, gotcha

(KattiValk) #18

The mercs can be hired by either side and lore wise don’t necessarily have differences between which side they shoot for. There’s no real reason why mercs would have scruffier or different models when playing for Jackal or vise versa. Something like all the Jackal mercs having a joker card on their person for IFF and CDA having a badge clipped to their belt would make sense, but not much besides that.

I would rather see an actual customization thing being added at some point so we can micromanage all the little bits and bobs.

(PleasantWheat) #19

The idea was essentially to have some sort of visual difference between the different sides so even something small like you said would be cool

(HunterAssassin5) #20

it doesnt even need to involve changing the current character models, just sticking an additional item to the existing skeletons of the character models, like a radio backpack with an antennae with a blinking red light on top for Jackals and a gas mask for CDAs, something distinct and easy to see.
