F2P Hero Rotation should be individual for release

I know this has been discussed, but I think it is worth revisiting as we get closer to the official release. It is all important that Dirtybomb makes the best first impression possible, and servers filled with 4x Naders or Proxies or even Skyhammers will not create that impression. Having many multiples of a merc in a game exaggerates new players’ sense of imbalance and tends to create an obnoxious experience overall. If the official release is a success, there will be countless lobbies where all 12 players are drawn from the same 5 or 6 Mercs. That is not putting your best foot forward.

This problem could be largely avoided by individualizing the F2P rotation. Everyone gets 3 random Mercs unlocked, could be more sophisticated if you want.

Do not allow a situation where half the people who give this game a shot end up in a lobby with 7 Fraggers or Phantoms or Vasillis. That would be virtual malpractice.

I agree. When i recently gave Battlerite a try, individual f2p rotation was something i apreciated a lot because of the reasons you mentioned.

Yeah Battlerite did that well.

Depending on what SD has resources to do, it might even be worth adding F2P unlock to the new player experience as leveling up reward.

Like: at level 2 you get to pick between one of 3 mercs to play for free for 2 weeks. Level 4 pick again, level 6 pick again, etc. With high skill mercs like Sparks either loudly marked as such or simply not presented.

That would keep things more controllable if SD is particularly concerned that new players will have a bad time with Aimee or Sparks or something.

Then if they really wanted to be Battlerite tier they could have quests that permanently unlock one of the mercs you decided to try.

There already are quests to unlock each merc: collect N credits. B)

One of changes that will be comming on release would be free engineer. So engineer will not be mandatory for free rotation. It would be interesting if free rotation had one random merc for all, one individually random merc and one selectable merc.

The random merc for all will let SD to take a closer look on how merc is performing and get required feedback, the individually random merc will randomize things and the personal selection will let new players to try a merc they want (and may be not buy Vassili)

It would be interesting if you got a merc case every 10 levels to unlock any of remaining mercs or (and) if arsenal case would have a chance to drop such case (merc). Arsenal cases can already drop things like 10 crafting kits that value like 50k credits in craft, so there is nothing wrong at having 30-50k cost merc in there too, right?

P.s. don’t get me wrong, i opened last merc a week or 2 ago so no personal interests here!
