Extreme Lag spikes and Rubberbanding

(Xenithos) #1

This is mainly a question for other players, and a request if this is because of DB or something I’ve done.
My internet is fairly reasonable, and on East servers, my ping usually sits around 32-54.

However, at certain points during the match, and it’s been happening for the past 5 days, usually only in stopwatch mode, I’ve been getting EXTREME ping fluctuations between 150-380 for minutes, and then it will skyrocket all the way to 800-1000 range. If I hit 1000 I’m immediately kicked.

This is absolutely infuriating when I’m in matches, and at first, I thought the problem was one of the other users in my home downloading something; but I monitored their internet use when it occurred again, and no one was actually downloading anything on Steam or any other program. Including my computer as well. Only thing anyone was doing was playing DB or reading. So I got the smart idea to speed test my computer when it hit the absurd numbers, and here are the results. Captured when DB skyrockets to 900 area:

Alt tabbed, with DB still opened, and running high:

So, has this been happening to anyone else? Is it just me for a reason? Or are certain servers bugged? I would love to know, so that my utility in battle stops hitting rock bottom. It’s absolutely terrible to not even hear a mine before you’re dead to it, and many of the other situational aspects of DB. Should I reinstall Dirty Bomb?

Also, the other users playing DB in my house are not affected by this.

Wow your download speed is so high mine is only 0.8Mbps. I’m curious what other factors affect rubberbanding and lag because I played with someone with stable 32 ping but they still rubberband around.

Oh and nice score

if other people on your network are having no problems, the problems are in your rig, could be auto-updates or your wifi

I figured as much. However, my rig is fine. It’s probably something to do with the wireless. Why does it always suck. :frowning:

Ping your router for some time and check if you don’t have regular ping spikes appearing.
Strangely, I had the same issue couple weeks ago and needed to replace a wifi-card which ran pretty well over 4 years.

IF you are warping heavily it very commonly turns out to be a heat issue with a player’s processor. Most people don’t think about this because, “other games work fine”. Most other games don’t work your CPU as hard as DB does though.

Open up the one for your OS (most likely 64bit) and keep it running. Notice your CPU core temps while you aren’t playing anything. Turn on DB and play until you start seeing warping/lagging. Then exit the game and check the program to see what your highest recorded temperature was (it will be on the far right). Then google whatever processor you have for it’s max temperature.

I know a lot of AMD procs made in the last few years are around 65c before you get into damage temps and intel is around 105c before damage temps but those are guidelines for common procs. Google will know

Rubberbanding is usually caused by your processor constantly clocking itself down to reduce thermals then letting it speed up again.

Good luck.

I have an I7-3930k Safe temps are within reason after this test. But thanks for the thoughts. I’ll continue to monitor it through some other tests though, in case it happens to be a myriad of issues. In fact, my hottest core was 61*C…

Yeah, that’s a perfectly fine temp for that processor under load. The next thing you can do is use the network monitor and filter it so that you only see dirty bomb connections. This will give you the IP of the server you’re connecting to that is warping. Then start up a constant ping to it (I think they accept ping requests) and keep it running for a while. Notice if you get any packet loss or up and down pings that are out of the norm that might not register in the game’s client. There is another person on this forum who had a similar issue with the 4g connection they were on. For quite some time they thought it was DB and it turned out to be their connection after testing this.

If you’re on wifi get off wifi. Especially if it’s 2.4ghz and you’re in an apartment.

Good luck again!

Remember also that game latency should work both ways. It wouldn’t matter if you have high download speeds if your upload speed is being taken up by another process.

(Xenithos) #10

Yeah, overall I’m thinking that it is my wi-fi equipment. I’m not sure how to test if it’s 2.4 ghz (I know my wireless antenna isn’t (it’s 5ghz)), but as everything, eventually it won’t work at full capacity.

Dirty Bomb probably just can’t be played through this wireless that well. I’m even in the same room with it, so I think subconsciously I wasn’t looking for that as an issue. Thanks for the help guys. And especially Amerika. I’ve just never had an issue with wifi for how long I’ve been using it up until now.

Gets a drill

I’m well aware, the above, and my words, were somewhat simplified. However, clearly by the picture, upload and download were well within norm, (for my package that is). (And I wasn’t uploading anything anyway  )

Thanks though!

Check this out: try up or downstreamining then operate your microwave at full strength. If you see something going on, connect to internet using sheilded twisted pair (CAT7)

Me and most of regular asia server players are getting 200+ ping in each asia servers, fix this issue please ! 3 days ago I played on Asian servers with 80-90 ping. @ T_T
