Extraction.exe stopped working (faulting module ntdll) after installing update kb3000850 on win 8.1

Not sure if this is just me but going to post incase it helps someone else,
yesterday the game wouldn’t launch and i was thinking it was a graphics driver update but then i remembered i also installed some windows updates so i uninstalled kb3000850 then the game worked again,
so i tried reinstalling it to see if it still worked and it doesn’t.

would be good to know if its just my pc but for now i can uninstall it again.

check and see if win update reset your win defender settings or firewall permissions

thanks for the input, i tried excluding the whole directory and the firewall rule was still there but still doesn’t work it could be anything really but atleast i know it works if i uninstall the update

edit: on the kb3000850 website you can download a list of changed files and one of them is ntdll.dll so either that file is getting corrupt or is not compatible anymore, i will try to download it from the website instead of windows update and see if there is any difference.

edit: uninstalled the game works again, downloaded the update from the website and checked all the checksums which all matched reinstalled not working anymore

could try:
start Nexon launcher, go to library, dirty bomb, click on little gear thingy at top right, select repair files

(Stealth187) #5

i tried that a few times but no luck, it is probably a microsoft problem but i wanted to make the post because i luckily noticed what is causing it as i would be totally lost if i didn’t know it was that specific windows update (when you have 1 program crashing you don’t normally think it’s a windows update)

(Nail) #6

outside chance, uninstall win update, then reinstall in custom mode, without graphics updates

(Stealth187) #7

wasn’t sure what you meant by custom mode on windows update, there haven’t seen any options on them,

I found another forum where someone said this update affects another game from what i can tell its a service pack which MS don’t want to call a service pack,
anyway i am going to try totally reinstalling the game with the update already applied and if that doesn’t work i will either wait or uninstall the update again.

Thanks alot for trying to help though

(Nail) #8

with win update, you can choose between express and custom installs

(Stealth187) #9

I don’t see that option on windows 8, i think i remember it being on windows 7, anyway i found someone else with the issue on another nexon game (combat arms) they had the same thing exactly where uninstalling fixes it but i can’t post the link though

I really believe it is due to ntdll.dll being updated and affecting the games which rely on a certain version of it or something, i would post on that forum too but due to NDA i don’t know if that would be allowed even to mention the name of the game.

(Nail) #10

maybe try updating video drivers after win update

(candysays) #11

I had the same error. Uninstalled the MS update and now DB works again.

(Stealth187) #12

yea, the problem is that update has loads of stuff in it so i would rather find a fix than uninstall it but i know it works when it isn’t installed though,

i tried updating drivers installing manual downloads instead of through windows update etc, the strange thing is alot of people don’t have a problem but others have issues with google chrome which works fine for me.
