-export = exports a copy of the lightmap from bsp (-import will replace the lightmaps in a bsp)
-external = like it says.
Afaik there isn’t really a diff in total filesize either this way or the other, right? What would be the advantage of having the lightmaps external?
extensions of exported files are tga which are non-compressed
tga2jpg conversion makes them smaller in terms of file size at the expense of loss of an original quality depending on the compression setting for your 2d gfx app
smaller file size, more d/l especially for 56k
cheatability
free manipulation after compilation
L.E(ligthmap enlargement)
for example, lightmap in original q3 is limited to 128x128px
by externaling, it can be set to 512x512px or above or any unless its setting hits the limitation about which I’m not quite sure
I ve never read of 1. or 2. to be done… does anybody actually do that? Am I missing tutorials on that? And then… i mean if a lightmap represents what i acchieve by placing lights etc. in my .map, is there something you can do by manipulating your lightmap you can’t do by working on your lights? (Or am I just revealing i have no clue about this where i should have some
)
