explosions... ?

im using several mortarshooters to create an effect of something being bombed.
however when i stand close enough and all the smoke sprites are being drawn i get a cut back in fps.
is there a way to make just the explosion effect without the decals and smoke that come with it? is this what target_explosion does?

i UNchecked the spawnflags smoke and flash LMAO sry

well… it made little difference if any… it keeps gettin sluggish.
anything i can do? use a model? change the drawing of a corona?

i would try changing the mortars to panzers so i get less smoke i guess.
but im worried about the shells that the panzer shooter dispenses. it beats the whole purpose. also i think it’s a good idea to coat the floor with some kind of clip so that it doesnt leave black stains.

still… i think there might be a way of inserting a (possibly animated?) 2d sprite of an explosion, that always looks toward the player like a corona; does anybody have a clue? im running out of ideas and my map takes waaay too long to compile

anyway… i found that target_effect does exactly what i want, and i dont even need several like i did with mortars
