Exploit/bug- Trainyard

(acekiller345) #1

On Trainyard, you can get access to the 2nd objective without the track switch being hacked. You can spam your jump key and walljump over the gate (shown in video).

And where exactly is the exploit?

(acekiller345) #3

Thought I showed it clear in video… oh well

Its the gate by the MG nest, towards second objective. (putting pictures so I can show better)

(Mustang) #4

Not really an exploit though, it’s just making use of designed game mechanics.

(Smooth) #5

It’s a bug. Shouldn’t be able to access that area of the map without performing the first objective.

The levels are still pending updates to accommodate the Wall Jump changes.

(Mustang) #6

I still wouldn’t call it a bug, but rather an undesired consequence.

(Ceres) #7

Sad :frowning: I was thinking it was intentional to provide for better tactics in competition

(AssortedStuff) #8

That is not the only way to access the 2nd area:

(Smooth) #9

Isn’t that then the definition of an exploit? Abusing a feature in such as way as is unintended by the design?

Either way it’ll be bugged and fixed.

(Glottis-3D) #10

this known issue from the first day off wall-jumping patch. everyone was searching for new routes on all maps =)

(AssortedStuff) #11

And to be honest I don’t think there is anything wrong in being able to access that second area before time - as long as the attacking team isn’t allowed to place C4 explosives in the train carriage, that is.
Instead of blocking those areas I’d recommend to make it so that players would be able to jump back in, so not to be forced to use the ‘suicide+respawn’ option.

(Seanza) #12

I really enjoy running over the defence-side spawn gates going through the trainyard and coming out at the MG house gates to backrage spawn campers. Please don’t change this.

(Kendle) #13

It’s only an undesirable outcome of the new wall-jump feature because DB doesn’t have selectable spawn points, i.e. if attack can get over wall to plant defence must have the option of spawning back (behind carriage) to defuse. I’d rather SD add selectable spawn points than “fix” this so called exploit.

(Nail) #14

what he said ^

(Smooth) #15

The only reason the attacking team can’t plant the C4 is because they can’t reach it until the first objective is complete.

If they can reach it, what’s to stop them planting the C4 at any point? It wouldn’t make much sense.

(Mustang) #16

Of course it makes sense that hacking a railroad switch opens two sets of gates.

I’ve now tested it on an empty server and my concerns were put to rest. The attackers cannot plant the C4 without hacking the track switch first.
So, that little bit of the game mechanics is working correctly.

And so I say again - There is nothing wrong in being able to access other areas before their time!
As long there is a way back to the main area it’s fine. It’s way more frustrating to have invisible walls barring access to areas you blatantly see you could reach easily.
The only problem in accessing other areas is that the player doing it will be wasting time, as it most likely they won’t be working towards fulfilling the team’s objectives.

So, this thread does not report a bug.

Yes there is.

  1. It doesn’t make sense that the charge can’t be planted at any point if you can access the area
  2. It allows players to rush the objective ahead of the desired time

I’m not saying the game is great right now when it comes to narrative and logic but we’re working on that where we can and making compromises where we have to.

Being able to access the second area of the map is unwanted and unintended by us and we will be fixing it, as a bug.

End of thread :stuck_out_tongue:
