Experimenting with FoV

(Jimmy James) #1

Started talking about FoV (Field of View/Vision) in another thread but I didn’t want to hijack that thread so I’m starting this one.

Here is a comparison of Brink at the default FoV (70) against FoV 100. (This is on a nVidia GeForce 8600 GT.)

It seems that the graphics degrade and distort pretty severely at that setting but I was wondering what other settings people are using.

Whoa, what a difference. Does it look weird when you spin around? I’d like to be able to see more peripheral stuff.

(Bittermetal) #3

I get no real visible visual graphic loss. But I get over 100 fps consistently and I play at 2560x1600 resolution.

See here for 3 different FOV settings. Top most recent images. But feel free to look at them all

i have no productive (or unproductive) comments on the FOV issue.

but your first screen cap makes an unintentional toy manufacturer reference that made me chuckle.

I found 90 to be a good setting for me. It seemed to balance being used to the 70 FOV, and not feeling like the screen was over stretched or having graphical glitches. At 90 I barely see my left arm freaking out.

Jeez, it looks like you’re standing in 3 different spots. The 200 FOV lets you see so much.

(Kendle) #8

Pretty sure 110 is the max. FOV in MP, probably set it to anything you like offline, haven’t checked.

(TeoH) #9

Yea 110 is max in general, including offline, typing ui_fov 200 just gives you 110. It’s in degrees, so an actual FOV of 200 would allow vision slightly behind your character.

Heh, good eye. I didn’t even notice that.

a 110 max would make sense, going from 100 to 200 should make a much bigger difference, considering you would actually be seeing slightly behind yourself.

Also, i want a Fisher Price shotgun now.

(Bittermetal) #12

hahaha! Yeah. Someone told me that was not 200 FOV. Well no it’s not eseentially because you max out at 110

But it really helps my gameplay tremendously. Makes everything seem so much speedier. I increase FOV in BLOPS and BFBC2. Its great!

On my 1440x900, 16:10 monitor, I find a fov of 86 to be pretty sweet.

(Mustang) #14

16:10 running at 90 right now
Planning to slowly increase it overtime until I find the sweet spot

Same. 16:10 with a 30in monitor. Resolution is 2560x1600. Framerate is a consistent 127-135 with 2-way SLi 470 cards. I do overclock the cards to get that framerate. Otherwise I get consistent 100fps.

My sweet spot is 101! Love it

(MorsTua) #16

i always have fov 110
it seems to go a bit faster thoug

(H0RSE) #17

110 is what I use in most PC FPS games.
