Exedore "We’ll be reintroducing longer spawn times to Stopwatch Mode"

(PixelTwitch) #1

Removed due to perceived arrogance…

(montheponies) #2

one thing in isolation isnt going to be the magic bullet - however the timers can and should be offset - with a lower spawntime for offense (eg, 20s off, 30s def). The timers should also be staggered and removed from score screen for the other team.

When combined with decent map design there is a large body of empirical evidence to show this works.

WC last obj will get even worse for defence, if layout is not changed. (spawnrape will become SPAAAWWN RAAAAEEEPPP)

(tokamak) #4

I think kill/heal/-insert action-streaks would help better in adding weight to deaths.

FYI this change is going to be put out mostly to get more data on how it affects things. This is a test rather than a full blown confirmed change, please treat it as such.

Also, don’t judge it before you try it

Im judging it based off what happened last time you lengthened the spawns by a few seconds

But seriously this is why Exedore should let others post…
Why was that little bit of information left out?

Most of our initial impressions are based off your intent.
We get its beta lots of things will change back and forth but saying we are going to change something for testing…
Is very different to saying we are going to change something…

Why do you start “testing” things in the closed beta? Wouldnt it be smarter to test such things as early as possible?

Every stage is a test and everything can change at any time. Nothing is final etc… something something as a service.

EDIT: Here we go source

(warbie) #9

Agreed. That’s the important bit.

I know that. But wouldnt it be smarter to have the big changes at the beginning or pretty early? It does always take more time and money to change big things when a product is nearing the final version. I always said it during the early alpha: throw us some big changes for testing purpose so we can test it. Now it is a bit late. Just have a look at the advanced movement system:
Levels were designed without walljump etc, but it got added later. Now they have to put a sh!t load of work (money) into the maps to get the movement system working. Obviously the advanced movement was never planned to be a part of the game because it is clear that changes in the movement system have an huge impact on how maps are played and how the speed is.
Imo the problem is/was that SD wants to make a comp FPS and they had at the beginning a rough idea. So far no problem. The problem I saw was that they had no clear design apporach, maybe they said we start developing the game and we evolve it during development. That doesnt work. When I want to build a motorcycle and during the process of building I add additional wheels, change the interior but the base is still a motorcycle, I will have a bad motorcycle and a bad car. It wont be good at anything. And I see the same at DB. It is a FPS with MOBA stuff. As a FPS, DB is not good, and as moba neither. Maybe that changes during time, but we complain about 1 1/2 years about the same and the core issues never had been adressed. I once voiced that I dont know what DB wants to be, still I dont know what it wants to be

(stealth6) #11

Can’t say I disagree, but posting about it doesn’t seem to help. I’m not trying to dicourage anybody and posts are cheap. My last post was just a satirical jab at the cookie cutter replies we get.

TL : DR

that change will just suck ,if the (felt) TTK is still below 1 second.
No good news until it comes with other changes.

quit using hardware examples to illustrate software problems, the analogy is wrong and insulting to the devs
