'Execution' Mode Feedback

Hey all!

This weekend we’re releasing the brand new ‘Execution’ game mode and we want your feedback to help make improvements. It will be live from Friday (01/05) to Tuesday (05/05) and along with ‘Execution’ comes the new map ‘Overground’. If you have thoughts for map you can leave your feedback here.

For everything ‘Execution’ however, we’d like you to put your ideas below on what you like/dislike and what we could improve on.

Some feedback:

This one is general but it seems if teams are even numbers, someone can be an asshole and switch teams making it 7 v 5 etc. You shouldn’t be able to switch teams if numbers are even.

I don’t like that the end of round win/loss screen cuts off your chat and interrupts you if you’re typing a message, I also don’t like that you can’t press Tab during this to see the scoreboard at the time.

Pressing ’ brings down the console when you’re typing a message on the lobby screen, darned annoying.

Can you put an A and a B on the shield symbols of both C4 sites so we can say which one is being pushed? Don’t do it like Overground where it’s on the wall, put it on the actual symbol so we can see it on the screen.

Bit miffed the loot case drop issue wasn’t fixed for this release, i’ve been playing all weekend and got no card drops because of it and Credit earning is quite small for this mode.

pace of the fights and speed of the mercs are conflicting with the camping-nature of the life-per-round. and also the fact taht only fragger can play 1v2 or 1v3 realy limits the merc choice. but mostly limiting factor is life-per-round nature. defs are camping and even attackers are camping. i saw this many many times in many many games before.

this game mode is not for me.

I’m not sure they are conflicting. There is a lot of camping/posturing from both sides: i think this is really good for the game, finally I feel like I’m busting a setup defence, with people covering each other’s corners, rather than TDM through the map.

I was really looking forward to the mode… Counter-Strike minus money management plus classes… and it’s not working at least not for public games.

If you are a good player at CS it’s not unusal to win a 1on3 if u can handle to plant the bomb if the defenders are on the other side of the map.
If you get a 1on3 situation in Execution and plant the Bomb u reveal ur position and play in worst case vs 2 medics + 1 engi. Even as fragger u can’t denie to let the engi defuse AND kill+finish both medics.

Another problem is that flanking and circulating enemys isn’t easy even on this pretty big map cause u can’t foresee how many enemys you will find and if there are medics arround that can totally repeal your one or two kills before you die.

At the moment the team wins that have more “stupid” players trying to scout or kill solo.

Another fact that really grinds my gears is that u create stepsounds if you are standing still and just look arround makes it more hard to outnumbered situations

I am working on a large thread at the moment giving my feedback but for the sake of this thread…

I really don’t like the new mode one bit…
Here is why…

Bomb plays a limited role.
3 Sawbones 2 Fragger incoming on 5v5.
The map is horrendous when it comes to collision and basic layout.
The round structure mutes the excitement.
Round length conflicts with the games core speed.
I came to Dirty Bomb to escape from S&D.
The modes design leaves no place for FO or Engie.
Taking 3 Mercs into battle again, would prefer freedom or locking to a single Merc.
Core design does not suit the gamemode (horrible sound design, Speed, combat style)
7vs7 in public.
Buy time with nothing to buy.
Lots of wasted time like the 5 seconds after last guy is killed.
Does not work as a more laid back gamemode (something DB desperately needs)
Multiple Objectives.

Let’s put it this way…
If you asked me to list all the gamemodes I would love to see come too Dirty Bomb, this would be pretty close to the bottom of said list.

I tend to agree, to be fair I only played one round last night and couldnt really get any excitement out of it.

When this mode was being played in Alpha it was simply a last man standing variant on TDM - which lots of folk seemed to like. Personally it wasnt my cup of tea, but at least it didnt feel like a poor attempt at emulating CS.

I’d prefer to see TDM in there - you could make it a merc ‘free’ zone, so folk could trial playing with a merc before purchasing and using in Obj/SW.

I personally think that this game mode is currently the best (and tbh it always was, even in alpha).
I am a bit skeptic about the presence of objectives in Execution, since the previous version without them was already quite a lot of fun.
For me Execution is all about happy fragging and combat support of teammates and for that objectives aren’t really necessary. But hey, let’s test this one.
Perhaps there will be later a way to disable objectives on server or even a separate extermination mode w/o planting, alpha-style.

The absence of textures, as in Dome, obscures the enjoyment a bit and makes orientation a bit more difficult but is not a surprise.

However I must agree that collisions aren’t perfect yet, for example, on the balcony exit near the more remote defender objective, there where a grated concrete floor ramp goes up. The exit to balcony there has a floor bump which disturbs strafing onto the balcony and thus makes guarding the route a bit annoying.

Also note two current small technical issues: a bug and a questionable feature.

All in all, Execution makes a looong awaited by many players return and is an excellent adition to DB. Opening up more maps to public is highly appreciated. Hope Execution won’t be off for too long again.

Draft mode will prbbly help this mode.
No double mercs that is.

Let’s see how it actually goes first, it’s very intriguing. What stands out to me the most so far is that clutches really aren’t a big thing in this mode for Dirty Bomb. On the other hand, that only makes it more exciting when it happens anyway.

I do think Fire Support is actually really important in this mode, otherwise you can easily be starved of ammo. The tactical spam is a bonus. I don’t know about Engineers, but having one does add a lot of pressure for the other team to secure the bombsite and they are decent for defense as well, so I wouldn’t rule it out just yet. Finally a skilled Vassili should be able to make quite a difference, especially if the other team goes heavy on Fraggers.

The map seems pretty good to me so far, sans polish of course.

I think it plays fairly fast, and that reducing the round time should be considered. Perhaps increasing the max rounds instead (games can be over really quickly).

I do enjoy the non-stop action of Stopwatch, but I could see this mode providing more tactical depth once teams really dig into it. It also sidesteps a lot of difficulties and balance issues of Stopwatch, so that’s something… and of course it’s great for spectators.

A big question will be how it fits into the competitive scene. Allowing people to choose the mode together with their map (ala CoD) could be very interesting in my opinion. This would add a ton of variety but would risk alienating those who really can’t stand one mode or another.

So, after few hours on it, I don’t really like it, the map is really fun with a lot of tricks jumps (and tricks plant) !
Why SW maps are so poor and linear ? I’m clearly not a fan of S&D gametype, I prefer CTF and much better Baserace !!! Baserace is THE gamemode I want to see in DB.

I like it. It is a bit weird, but a fun mode to play.

I just assume that most of the new devs at SD don’t know what baserace is. Am i right? :smiley:

I think the gamemode is ok and the map is good, but I don’t really like S&D in general.
We really need better SW maps.
I also think that baserace would be really awesome. Some combination of building your own base, capture the flag and planting a bomb in enemies base.

found a description of ET baserace map:

“Its a race, to build your base!
Steal Construction Materials from your enemy’s base and secure them at the various ‘Capture Pads’ located in your team’s base. Different capture pads correspond to different base constructions and upgrades, so be sure to think about where you secure your Construction Materials. Capture Pads can be used multiple times to upgrade constructions. Also, constructions can be ‘synergized’ by completing combinations of other constructions. The first team to complete all 40 constructions / upgrades or have the most completed when the timer runs out wins!”

This is what we need in Dirty Bomb, but add the ability to blow up constructions!!
Baserace really fits the moba character of DB.
Being attacker and defender at the same time adds sooo much depth and gives every merc a purpose in every match.

So basically the feedback is “I don’t personally like the mode, so turn it into a completely different mode that I do like”. Great feedback
