Execution matches should NEVER end in draws

(onyxMaker) #1

I just finished an Execution match that ended in a 6 to 6 draw.

This should never happen.

If the score is tied at 6-6, then there should be a “sudden death” round to determine the winner.

To make it fair, the sudden death round should be a team deathmatch round instead of a defend/attack objective round.

It should just be the first team to win X amount of rounds wins.

It’s still a beta mode. Pretty much everyone hates draws and I’m sure the devs don’t want them either but haven’t put the time in yet to put a proper OT mode in the game since Execution isn’t 100% guaranteed to ever be a thing in the game.

Personally, I am against execution unless they hire a bunch of map makers or release an SDK that allows the community to make maps (which we can submit to them for use/changes). We already need a lot more Stopwatch maps in the rotation and if Execution became permanent it would need a lot more maps.

(Gi.Am) #4

I see that popup from time to time. And I don’t get it. Why shouldn’t draws happen. When both teams fought equally well, why shouldn’t it be acknowledged that there was no clear winner ?

(Amerika) #5

Because draws suck? I guess that’s my feeling. I want a clear winner one way or another. And overtime is always a lot of fun.

(dreamyMonkey) #6

its beta, I guess that will have overtime

(ebonyMountain) #7

Ehm, why do draws suck again? This game is highly asymetrical. Having an uneven amount of rounts will favour one side or the other, because the maps will not be as balanced as one can hope. A draw after 12 rounds is probably a good indicator, that a) the map is one sided or b) the teams are even.

(triteTongs) #8

Yeah, you can’t fix draws.

They will always exist in a gametype like this.

CSGO also has draws. Draws are fine.

(brawnyJester) #9

I would rather have 5CP from TF2 than a Counterstrike wannabe mode(yeah I know OLTL was a thing in ET)

(onyxMaker) #10

Bumping this thread since there are still draws in Execution as of last weekend’s test play.

Draws are unacceptable.

(einstyle) #11

what should be the decider then? can’t really be an uneven number of rounds since maps aren’t symmetrical

combined points of the teams? sudden death (but then, on what map?)
I still think draws aren’t all too bad, since they don’t occur that often

I guess you didn’t read the first post and only read the topic title:

“To make it fair, the sudden death round should be a team deathmatch round instead of a defend/attack objective round.”

Probably 75% of rounds end via player elimination instead of explosion/defusion right now in Execution, so I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t make the sudden death tiebreaker round a TDM round.

(Gi.Am) #13

Uhm no you are not going to smuggle a TDM mode into that game. Draws are fine, there is enough room for two winners. And CS the game that created that gamemode lives a happy life for many years (even decades) now with draws included.

If you’d really had to eliminate them you would go with a similiar rule as tennis i.e. you need to lead with two rounds to win. So if it is 5 - 5 at the end it would switch sides every round and as soon as one side wins 2 in a row. They take the cake. Downside is it could drag along for quite sometime.

(Viquel) #14

Maybe decide like stopwatch: team’s total defense times plus remaining total attack times (if a match is 2:30+30s overtime and you destroy at 2:00, it’s 60 seconds remaining), highest total wins. There can still be a draw, but it’s less likely.

It’s favoring the first complete team, just like stopwatch. So a tie would be my personal preference.

(GeNKi) #15

I agree that draw caused by both teams reaching score of 6 feels as unfinished design… but yeah, game is in beta, I am pretty sure they will alter it somehow.

(PlayingUndead) #16

The existence of draws is fine, but if your feeling is that they’re occurring too often, then yeah like the other person said it might be a sign of the map being too T sided or CT sided resulting in draws being too often.

Hell, maybe not even just the map, maybe the whole game creates some balance issue for execution mode resulting in it being too likely to be one sided. I’m sure they have all the numbers on file with that fancy little balancing system I saw that video of, forgot what it was called, so they can make the tweaks to iron out the wrinkles based on statistics and “dynamic content feedback” or whatever. That’s why we only test it in sessions I figure. So they can let everyone go through and play, and then sit down with a pile of finished results to analyze until the next test session where they get more results. Guinea pigs, all of us.
