Had a game yesterday and started to think, why was I finding DB not as exciting as I find ET to play (still).
The answer I came up with is the excitement factor…
Whitechapel is a map I find deadly boring with nothing happening… I played Engineer and decided to whore the objs but all I found myself doing was pushing the EV… it was so slow and painful…
I compared this to a map like Oasis - particularly the first phase… where the objective is to plant at the wall OR capture the flag OR jump the wall OR covert op through the door and plant the anti tank guns.
There’s something about knowing the rest of your team is dead, they’re all specing you… you run past 2 medics run and jump for the flag… and just before you hit it the entire enemy team spawns and kills you or when you’re team is dead and watching the “that guy” of the server do something ridiculously awesome… it’s just plain fun.
Also competitive wise, the options you have to beat the enemy team are varied… as mentioned before… multiple ways to capture the forward spawn or bypass that completely and try sneak and win.
After writing this I realize, it’s the linearity of DB that is failing the capture my attention…
That said… I’m looking forward to future patches and how the game develops
