Excessive Fogginess on Maps

(en2ie) #21

Don’t think I have had visibility issues with the fog, is it there for aesthetics or for performance? I always thought fog (or haze) at distance meant performance improvements whereas fog up close is was aesthetics (like adding to the atmosphere).
Exponential height fog in UE3 can be very beneficial to gameplay when the settings are correct for the environment, aside from performing an essential aesthetic function. It’s important not to confuse it with post-process effects, colour grading and other factors such as volumetric light shaft objects etc. Saying ‘fog is too thick’ is like saying ‘lighting is too dark’.

Please let us know more exact details of the specific locations and maps where things like this are hampering gameplay (with screenshots).
It’s everywhere. I may not know the technical term but their is a gray haze all over the map it looks awful and it makes it difficult to see models. I will try and provide screenshots of Camden vs Waterloo as I don’t think Camden has the gray haze yet.

Edit: Looks like Camden has it now but it’s not too bad yet. Let me know if you can see it now.

Well at your age you probably aren’t seeing many things these days.

You’re too sensitive lol. Thanks for checking it out, let me know if you notice it now.

Can you see what I’m talking about now Jonny_Hex?

(INF3RN0) #26

Deleted double post.

(INF3RN0) #27

Here’s what mine looks like for another reference. You can really see that thick haze over everything blending it all together and washing out the colors.

EDIT: Something I have been asking for since the start of alpha was a contrast adjustment option. I just upped the contrast manually in my video card settings to maximum and it looks significantly more clear.

Here mine ,not too bad, doesnt bother me .But liked more when it was Clearer

(j4b) #29

post process was one of the things that got removed by promod in q4-engine games (etqw and wolfenstein)

Ah these pictures of haze etc posted above was what i have been trying to put my finger on about the graphics compared to when i occasionally play CS:GO. In CS:GO all the models and textures are so visibly clear, i know it’s not the same setting/atmosphere as you are trying to create in DB but if there’s anything to increase the clarity of textures/models would be really great.

Here are a couple examples.

Doesnt need to be all @ the same Pattern… Extra clear . DB has a personnality :stuck_out_tongue:

(OwNLY) #33

OMG the game is so beautiful without the “artistic blue fog”.

Get rid of the fog. Please. I will do everything!

You also want it to be more clear, make up your mind!

Are you able to turn off those lighting effects? It seems like it in the 2nd shots. If so do share the commands .

(rookie1) #36

More clear in the beginning of waterloo not in WC… different environnement …and you wont see this tone in Canary wraft as it’s not a moon light place stuff

(Nail) #37

I guess i haven’t been on Camden since before art pass, yeah all maps have that real world haze on them, don’t like it, it’s depressing, haven’t been on WC with new look, will reserve opinion

(Jonny_Hex) #38

Made some changes to the fog in Waterloo, so you should see a difference next patch (less dense, pushed back a bit). The post has also improved a bit (less bloomy), but still a bit green for my liking. Whitechapel: we have a task for fixing up the lightshafts in the gameplay space already, but fog needs attention too.

(iwound) #39

give crispier graphics please. the colour that overlays everything can we at least have the option to remove it somehow.
there are areas that im having problems tracking because of it. there are major issues with team definition, and yes i know SD are working on this.
but this effect isnt helping the situation. someone mentioned that its started on camden with green. i wasnt so sure.
il try my cards contrast tomorrow.

It’s noticed. Thanks Jonny
