Mod filter? Hmm… maybe, but many mods modify server list anyway for that.

About search by player - Impossible. Master server don’t have information about players. Sites like trackbase.net or my gamestats list scans every server every some time (TB - 30s, gamestats - 1min) and sending ‘getstatus’ packet. Server responses current status WITH player names. But it doesn’t send that data to master.

Or even they have such information, info to master server is sent each 5 minutes, quite long for accurate results.

We do not have a dickhead wall of shame, yet. We do envision a system to share all community bans and more options for administrators, but those are not implemented for now. More on this possibly later.

It’s a little hard for all of us to move around all kinds of forums, so I’ll just answer some questions of their forum board here.

what exactly is the purpose of developing that mod?
Making a modern ET. We want to create a modern ET with new technologies but with the same gameplay. We want to do so by providing strong backwards compatibility (all existing maps can be ported to ETX quickly) while allowing all kinds of new things within the game.

i mean its like a pure graphics mod but what is the goal of that project?

We will provide new version of Nitmod, NoQuarter, new graphics, stronger networking code (no DOS attacks). The goal of an open source project is to create a permanent future for a game, something like Skulltag, EzQuake and Open Arena do.

is it made for recording et movies on that mod?

possible, but I’m not sure how well the files are compatible. This is not tested and it might be completely broken. I would also like to point out that existing .cfg files do not work. This is because of many new technologies under the hood. Using an existing movie.cfg will not help you at all. For now, we support the original recording tools (/record stuff) but you might want to relay on a third party tool for now.

The magic is in the last word. On the other hand, one word is enough to crush such fears; Admins.

why is the guy taking the screenshots on the moddb page having only 44 fps then?

Because we try to support all kinds of modern technologies. Seeing individual grains of sand takes a lot of memory. Most people will have no problem running at at least 60. Only when you go overboard with settings (like me) you increase the load exponentially.

developer nerd testing the game on a netbook with linux?

It’s worth noting that Linux preforms a little better, but netbooks are still bad choices.

No, the game code is unchanged. All original tricks are possible, the way how we all like them . Some renderer exploits are no longer available though. Mods can of course ‘re-create’ those advantages. But if you hope to get an unfair advantage over less known players on a public server, Your SOL.

Guys at CrossFire, thanks for the interest. I hope that someone will pass this on to you. Your feedback matters, and we understand that this project can only be successful if the community as a whole wants to support it: Competitive players, casual players, regular lone wolfs and “newfags”* (-- Goku from Germany).

To all out there who still haven’t seen any of it. Go try it. You do need a more modern PC (Pentium III is really end-of-line) and please understand, this is a public beta to get admins/mappers and the community more known with the project. This is not the final version, and we’re working very hard to make it all work.

For Gnu/Linux:
I’ve unpacked “xreal-mp_bin-20111106.pk3” with directories.
Result is the subdirectory “xreal-mp_bin-20111106”.
I’ve tried to start the game.
But I’ve got the same error message as before.
I’ve copied the .so files from the resulting “xreal-mp_bin-20111106” directory into the parent directory “etmain”.
And the game starts.
\o/
But I can’t create a profile.

Attempting to enter the etx servers directly, there is NQ, 2 Nitmod and warpig (dev) Xreal in theory you create the mod directory that you enter and create your profile.

$. /etxreal +connect drakserver.it: 27960

For that you create a profile in your etmain, I happen to boot etxreal and initialize a server locally.

I had a bad experience in the past with updating my graphic card driver manually: my card was listed in the driver’s list, but it made my card overheat, the screen were just red and blue…

Mistake was that I haven’t sett a connection type.
So no profile was created.

Now everything is working.

Is it normal that there’s no menu after launching the game ? I had to connect via a command and only then I was able to browse menus and set graphic settings without memorizing dozens of commands.
My system: Debian Linux 64 bit (Squeeze/stable). I got the source from git yesterday.

For folks on Linux, this is how you get the source from git:

No more issue after updating my graphic card driver.

On etx_goldrush, there’s the trigger_hurt enabled on map load in front of Bank, one dragon teeth from the First Tank Barrier appears but is non-solid.

Apart these, great textures, parallax works fine, can’t enable Bloom (Forced Off seems), and the performances are quite fine :slight_smile:

Hi the new install looks amazing XreaL is I think it is defentaly the way forward for ET - one thing though I have found is wile I am loading the pk3 from the server config i get a big black screen with a gold dot and it takes awile before I get in to game but it is worth it :smiley: if this can not be fixed add a loading bar at least :wink: I think people will be abile to live with this . Keep up the good work :cool:

P.S. Any tutorials on how to convert a stock et map to et XreaL ?

Yes we know. That’s probably problem with entity names on Doom3 format, because original ET uses the same names for some groups entities, but Doom3 format must have different names, so somewhere there is missing names, entitys etc.

About bloom… imo that’s bug in menu file because i’ve never seen it "Enable"d even when i had it enabled really, try /r_bloom 1.

With an Intel SB i3-2100 and a nVidia GTS 450 I’m able to get more than 100 FPS @ 1680*1050 with everything set to high / enabled.
