ROFL Web Dev team got pwnt.
ETQW SITE UPDATED.
They had a hard time finding engineers to work on that (I think they kept the job offer for like one year) but they’ve hired a few like one year ago. They’re working on porting the technology but since most of the engineering team is working on getting the Flash 9 player techonology out (that’s what was known as the 8.5 beta), the linux team is working on it too - so instead of releasing a Flash Player 8 for linux when 9 is almost out of the door then taking a long time to release 9, they’ll release version 9 almost in sync then continue supporting the platform together with the Mac Universal and PC releases.
Player 9 adds a totally new virtual machine (despite some changes on the platform, versions 2 through 8 only had features built on top of each other) so it’ll really be the best for all platforms. The PC+Mac version of flash player 9 is on beta now, and they said they’d release the Linux beta version right after the PC+Mac versions were officially released (something which should happen in a couple of months max).
I know Linux users had been left behind on the race, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying “it never will be” - they’re really doing their best to get support to the Linux world on par to what they do with PC/Mac. I don’t work for MM/Adobe, but that’s all I see from the developers blogs and betas.
I know that they’re TRYING, but the fact of the matter is that I can’t view that page NOW. (Although, since it is entirely in flash, I suspect I’m not missing much :))
Ditto here on Linux vs Flash 8. I had to run my long neglected Win98SE VMware image to view the site.
