ETQW Community Forums Down?

(Stroggafier) #161

If they cannot make an estimate when the sites are going to be back up. Can they estimate when they will have an estimate for when the sites will be back up?

We’re all guessing…never, and that their reply is just typical spineless corp-speak.

Who will fix this problem quicker: men with keyboards or monkeys with keyboards?

Dr. Funkenstein

hi you all just found out official on down even stats page is 20 days out of date:eek:

(Nagromme) #164

Still down!

I really hope all my useful QW forum bookmarks start working again. Even the wayback machine can’t reconnect those bookmarks!

any news ???

(NJ_Dude) #166

Why bother asking about the “old” forums?, we have this one, let’s start anew. :stroggflag:

(Nagromme) #167

In-game they seem to be up to date, though, right? At least, the “Last Played” date seems right. So I’m thinking that behind the scenes, stats are still tracking OK.

I sometimes like to check my accuracy on different weapons, hours spent on each class, etc. So I do like to have working stats—but I don’t really care that much if there’s a web site for them. I care about my own stats more than my rank vs. others.

It’s great that SD has offered this, and I hope both forums keep going. But there are good reasons to want the old forums back:

 • When people buy the game, it directs them there, not here

 • Very few people from the enormous playerbase of the old forum will find their way here (it has been over a week, but there’s still very little activity here)

 • People are less likely to join this forum than the old one, simply because that one had a high level of activity

 • Googling a question about QW often links people to info on those forums—and now all those links are dead

 • Permanent loss of the old forums would be an even bigger sign of lack of commitment to the game and its players

Basically, anything that shrinks the community is bad, and the loss of the old forums shrinks the community a lot.

Plus they were a huge, searchable resource of information, advice and experience, very little of which will ever appear here. And not just a static resource, but one people could edit, add to, and ask questions about. Even retrieving a Wayback copy of an old thread doesn’t achieve all that (plus Wayback is often missing images, and doesn’t have the same search functionality).

So I very much hope that this “mistake” is corrected soon. (One reason for hope is that the Activision QW page is clearly still in an unfinished state: it has a button for “Official Site” that goes to enemyterritory.com (and then redirects back again). They must have intended for the Activision page to link to a real, separate enemyterritory.com, or else why even have that button at all? So if/when that button actually goes to enemyterritory.com as planned, who is to say what enemyterritory.com will contain? Maybe the forums once again! I’d be more worried if that Official Site button were to vanish.)

(Cankor) #168

yeah. There’s stuff in those old forums I would have copied and saved had I known they were going down. There’s a lot of useful info that many players spent lots of time compiling for the edification of all that may be lost for ever now. Lots of different guides and things, that stuff could have been copied into ETQW 4 Newbies for instance and saved if someone had given warning that this was coming.

It’s easy to understand why people get frustrated over this kind of stuff. I’ll think twice about buying another Activision game because they really don’t seem to care (but I’ll still buy one if it’s a good game or I like the developer, can’t say the same about Infinity Ward, I’m never buying one of their games again ever).

(Party) #169

Why Infinity Ward Cankor? I’m boycotting Activision for Wolfenstein sucking, the QW forums being down, and repeat Call of Duty games. I didn’t buy MW2 b/c World at War was the same thing as Modern Warfare. I’m tired of their crappy approach. :oppressor:

(Cankor) #170

No dedicated servers (no clan community presence, no abolity to admin your own servers and kick of griefers and hackers, etc.) They did it for the almighty dollar (so they can sell you down loadable content later on instead of having community members make their own maps and mods).

Suppose we shouldn’t discuss here though, not the place nor thread.

(.Chris.) #171

How you propose we go about getting back all the modding and mapping info again then?

(light_sh4v0r) #172

I suggest we go and steal the databrain from the AV office

(Donnovan) #173

Light, i go as soldier with rocket launcher to explode some monkeys with keyboards

(Sniper47) #174

Activision = :orbital:

(ED209) #175

Maybe they sent the Forum Backup media to Stroggos?

(MXF.CN) #176

Activision S.U.C.K.S.

I’m feeling good that BRINK is not published by Activision.

(Valthare) #177

Why are so many people suggesting the site will come back up again? Is this not a bit gullible? The fact that that AV does not even direct you to a “temporary off-line site page” or explanation window AND does not make ANY statement about “it” speaks pretty much for itself IMO. Personally - I blame the availability of the linux client for it…
No loss for me anyway - the site sucked big time, took ages to update the scores and just encouraged in-game-bullying big time. (preferred stacked teams to score high - which also kills the game) - Just use splatterladder for more sensible and immediate stats. I did not realise it was run by activi$ion in the first place - silly me - cos of the label “Community Site”. That fact the there was so much fan submitted stuff in those forums sucks big time - all this info will be lost. There should be laws against this sort of thing! Last time I bought an Activision title anyway…

Personally, I don’t care about the stats site but you don’t just take community forums down.

you realize it took them 6 months to fix the stats site right? And the crappy new one they have is already out of date.
you realize it took them 6 months to fix the stats site right? And the crappy new one they have is already out of date.
6 months is better than never. Posts and threads on a forum are timeless. Especially tutorials and solutions for problems don’t age.
