Dark screens  I think the screenies look quite good, the buildings, etc.

The ambient light is 10, and it is a night time map. They would look brighter if you had ET on, and if you have brightness set to 2.0. I think a lot of people will like the file size, its below 3MB. But Iam still working on the sound and if i have it ready before the 20th, ill upload it for you all to download. But it is finished

glowing water + unshaded terrain , will you use lightmaps for those in final?

(Higgins) #5

What do you mean by light maps and the unshaded terrian?

(kamikazee) #6

Explanation of terms:
Unshaded terrain -> too bright, seems there are no shadows, etc…
Light map -> the part in the BSP (or external files) which describe the shadows of your map. If you do a BSP -meta compile, theee are no light maps in your map (so no shadows)

(Higgins) #7

Oh, Well those screens are from a light compile. Iam improving the lighting to make it better for people who dont use ET Brightness 2.0.

(nUllSkillZ) #8

You could try to use minlight.
Due to some posts here in the forum this should be better than ambient.

Well… ambient worked fine with my maps. And messing with the lighting of the map is def the wrong way to get better screenies.

The thing is that screenies from ET have to be brightened up in a graphics program. The Photo Editor that comes with MS Office is sufficent already: just put the gamma to 1.3 and you ll have the brightness you get with standard ET settings. Screenies in ET are taken with r_gamma 1 (no clue why), and usually you play at least 1.3.

I still think the outside is too dark though. Have a look at the radar skyshader to get an idea of the sunlight settings they used for it, or for goldrush. A dark map where you cant see the player models properly is going to be unplayable, and taht would be a pity.

Ive now used minilight 30 and ambient 5. Ive played it with my friend and i can see him upto the point of the fog distance, then hes a blur.

I guess using minlight and abient at the same time isn’t a good idea as they both seem to do almost the same. I’d say minlight 30 is overkill. My understanding is that one should try to get a good basic lighting from a sky shader and if it’s still not satisfying, use minlight.

The red floor looks OK. The yellow looks odd. But maybe it is just me.
